Basically a sweet salty hawaiin dish that combines soy sauce, sugar, and ginger into a reduction sauce. yummy stuff, but aside from rice I would like something else to serve with it.

Keeping with the Hawaiin theme:
Cooked taro is a nice alternative to potatoes.
Sauteed spinach with garlic and a touch of sugar, soy sauce and sesame seed oil.
Cooked sweet potatoes

like both, fruits: berries, oatmeal, pears, peaches, dragonfruit, pomegranate.... Vegetables: CUCUMBERS, bok choy, green beans, broccoli,.... We guess the two are great.

stir fried string beans or regular beans with ginger, garlic and chilli. or otherwise steamed carrots, seasoned with a mix of sesame seed paste (you can do it with a mortar or a mixer), + soy sauce + mirin + small piece of garlic.
