Great answers from many of you. I was also impressed with the quantity and quickness of many of the replies I got. Books like songs and movies are personal in taste I used to be a big Sci-fi fan, and I like technical books on computers, but since I have really started walking more in the way of the Master, The Lord Jesus Christ, I like books that take me to where He is.

The Purpose Driven Life, is a book every saved person should read. Wild at Heart is a book for Christian men about Christian men. It has impacted me more that I know, and taught me about the failures I had and why.

The Bible=Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The B.I.B.L.E. yes that's the book for me. It has been said the Bible is a "Book that will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this book".
I like NKJV, NIV, The Message.

I have not read Purpose Driven Life (but not impressed with what I have heard about it).

I have not read Wild at Heart.

I have read the Bible. My favorite version is the Revised Standard Version. However, it is worth while consulting the King James Version if for no other reason than that this translation essentially was the Protestant Bible for generations. If you have the time, read some critical commentaries on individual "books" of the Bible.

I read the 1st Left Behind novel and was not impressed with its use of the Bible.

I have read Chronicles of Narnia, but would caution about considering C. S. Lewis a definitive Christian author.

What would I recommend? It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Many volumes in the Anchor Bible Commentary series are worth looking at. The I & II Samuel volumes are excellent for the impact of the Dead Sea Scrolls as witnesses to the original text of the Old Testament. The Luke volumes are excellent for their discussion of the synoptic problem. For discussion of some recent topics in New Testament studies, read Bart Erhman.

The purpose driven life. Not yet

Wild at Heart. not yet

The Bible (what version?): KJV, NIV, Living, Greek, German

Left Behind Series: Part way through the first I thought it was a neat idea that needed better writers to bring across well, and stopped reading it.

Chronicles of Narnia: Yep

I tend to recommend:
Illusions (Richard Bach)
Running From Safety (also Richard Bach)
Be Here Now (Thin Nach Tsahn (sp?) not sure how to spell the author's name since I don't have the book anymore, but still a great read!)

Enjoy and be well in all things,
Rave

The purpose driven life. No, but my father has.

Wild at Heart. No.

The Bible (what version?) NKJV, NIV, KJV, The Message

Left Behind Series. No (they seem to twist the Bible's view of the end time.)

Chronicles of Narnia. Yes.

what Books do you recommend? Ty Gibson does a lot of excellent books. I would suggest him if you are looking for inspirational/thought provoking books. If you want action, check out Review and Herald and Tyndale house publisher. Hope this helps!!!

I read quite a lot, and at the moment I am reading two books on Native American religions and also Al-Qur'an, in an English translation. I've read the KJV oh probably a dozen times over the years. I just finished a book about the Religious Right's hatred for American democracy. And recently, "The Door of No Return," (re Christian slave traders in West Africa), Sam Harris' "Letter to a Christian Nation," Christopher Hitchens' "God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," "God: The Failed Hypothesis, by Victor Stenger, and, again, Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion."

I have read the bible, NIV version or at least parts of it, and parts of the NKJ version.
the Left Behind series, most of them, I have not read the second to last or last one.

The others I have not, although I did see the movie of the Chronicles of Narnia and enjoyed it a lot.

I like all sorts of books, from fantasy to fiction to non-fiction.

As for Christian books I would recommend they would be "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing The Darkness" by Frank Perretti.
There is also this book called "A Skeleton in God's Closet" they are all fiction books, but I enjoyed them a lot. There are more but I can not remember the titles at the moment.

I started the Purpose Driven Life, didn't like it, set it down. I've never heard of Wild at Heart. I tried reading the Chronicles of Narnia, but couldn't get into it (liked the movie, though). I also couldn't get into the Left Behind Series.

I've been studying the bible for ten years. That one seems to have "stuck". *smile* For my studies I find the NIV easier to understand.

Another great book: "The Case for Christ" by Lee Stroebel.
