I recently bought a Samsung Syncmaster 226BW (22" widescreen monitor). When I first bought it, I had Windows XP installed on my computer. The display/monitor worked fine. It gave me more room in windows and on the desktop. Recently, I installed Vista Ultimate (genuine edition). Instead of giving me more room due to the wider screen, it just strecthes everything out. All pictures are at a new ratio and everything is wider. In XP, for example, I could fit more icons in the same space, while in Vista, it's just stretching out the square version of the OS. I am using the same resolution on both (1620x1050). What's the problem. Why is XP giving me more room (the main reason why I bought a widescreen) while Vista Ultimate just stretches everything out to an unnatural ratio?

Vista itself may or may not be ready for prime time (depends on how much you do around the edges of the operating system, instead of safely in the middle of it). However, a known criticism regarding Vista is that many peripheral manufacturers have not updated their library of drivers to accommodate the 'new' operating system. You may be able to obtain an updated driver for your wide screen, or you may simply have to wait until the driver becomes available to enjoy the full real estate of your screen. Check with the manufacturer of the screen for details and support.

Ain't technology wunnerful?

I think that is not Vista your problem: you have to update your video card and monitor drivers. The video card drivers have to be Vista ready and be sure that your monitor is correctly identified by Vista.
