What can I write in my (high school) salutatorian speech?

I have no idea what to write because I do now want to make it long and boring. Please help!!

Generally,

1. Thank the School Administrators, teachers and fellow students [a classic {that is to say, 'trite'} is to say, "To the A students, B students, C students and my friends...].

2. Add a relevant joke or amusing story about your school years [perhaps about a 'popular' teacher].

3. Talk about the challenges that you will all face in the years ahead [perhaps, talk about recent inventions - things that did not exist 15 years ago and speculate about what comes next].

4. End with a word of encouragement [e.g., "screw your courage to the sticking place", from Macbeth.]
