the best thing to do is practice sprinting the 400 . I was totally afraid of it but i reduced my 200 time by 2.5 seconds and by stamina went up. the best way to practice the 400 is a brisk jog the first 100 pick it up at the 200 and sprint 150 into it.

You can improve your stamina by doing easy distance on the days you are not doing intervals on the track. This can also help your sprint times. I don't know if you will become competitive in distance races. You have the body and ability to sprint, very few people can be good at both. You can not improve your stamina fast. It takes time. You must build a base before you can do the work outs required to train as a distance runner.

well if you are a champion sprinter, just stick with your sprinting. Some good sprinters have ruined their season by doing cross country.

Have you ever run long enough to develop a runners high? It's great. Once you've done that, you will run long enough (to reach that goal) and your mind won't be so focused on the step step step that got you there. Does that make sense? That's what does it for me, personally.
