Maybe when they are around 17 or 18 make them do 4 or 5 weeks of boot camp training. Learn self defense tactics, weapons training and proper exercise. Keep the same active duty stuff but have something like the swiss have where all the men and women, if you want, who do not enlist for active duty or reserves, have certain military training. Obviously should be done in the summer so it is not to conflict with schooling. Also think of the money we can save getting Obese kids to get themselves into shape and learn the benefits of exercise.

Hick unlike you I did military service.

If you read my proposal it has no mention of people enlisting into the military they just recieve training from it. At no point are they required to join the active duty, but they will be required just to recieve basic training.

Sci I am a male in my twenties i do not have kids. Second I also served the military. I think many people would benifit from having some military training in their lives.

absolutely....Israel has mandatory service at that age, that would never fly here in America, but I think teenagers need a reality check cause they are not getting it from their parents

I think everyone should unless medically or criminally excused go through boot camp of some sorts. Not necessarily full out like the Marines but some where between the Army and Air Force. That way these kids would have a clue as to what the military is about and what it's like. It might straiten some of them out, lower the crime rate, we would have more volunteers for the service. and if we have a draft it will be easier to train them for war.

Would that not be somewhat close to the draft we had until 1975 that everybody hated and morale was at an all-time low?

Keep the forces 100% VOLUNTARY. America's military today is so much better than when the draft was in effect. The people defending our nation are the ones who want to defend us.

Can't we just incorporate more physical fitness into PE? I used to love PE, we ran the mile, climbed ropes, did pushups, and played stuff like basketball, lacross and dodgeball to name a few. Now when I visit my school every now and then (my brother still goes), i see the little kids playing stuff like hopscotch and bean bag tosses (no offense, but that may be why american kids are so lazy), just make more hardcore PE, and more sports available to younger kids

NO. We need to keep the voluntary service, if you read the polls in the military papers, the current troops want nothing to do with having members in it who are forced to serve.

How did you get so smart? I have been saying this for years. Something like boot camp, give 2 years of service of some sort to the country. Does not have to be military.

Brilliant. Of course, they need to learn something good, as it seems the parents aren't allowed to teach and the teachers are busy wanting to get busy with the kids. Someone has to do something about it, you may as well as anyone else, right?

We do have something called parental responsibility to combat obesity, it is there responsibility after all. As far as obliging people to go to boot camp, that would be taking nationalism to new heights.

Verrrrrry tempting!
Might just instill some discipline and self respect in a lot of people.
I can just imagine, ""You can't make me do that, I'll tell my mommy, I'll call my lawyers, I'll sure, my rights.""
This kind of kid will get an invitation to a blanket party.
Know what a blanket party is?? Do you want to???Hint? When it is over, nobody know a thing about it.

No, we dont need to take a bunch of under educated angry unemployed poor kids who are likely already involved in crime, then get them in shape and teach them how to beat up people.
