I'm not a fan of neither.
Gordon has had more years experience at racing than Jr. so therefore it sorta makes him better.
I think Jr. has just been with the wrong team or something. Maybe his cousin isn't the crew chief for him. A change next year may turn him into a better driver.

I really can't stand any one of the three. Of course, it's unfair and I'm biased for Ford's, so they've all broken my heart many times.
I'm an Indiana Native, so Hoosier bias not withstanding, Jeff Gordon is by far the better driver. He's won more races than Sr and did it in a non-intimidating way. He's just that good. I thought he might be through when Ray Evernham left Hendricks, but it didn't slow the team down a beat, and to this day he's a threat to with at every track, including the road courses. I've seen Gordon do incredible feats on the track. Back in the day, when he was running Silver Crown cars, spints and midgets, he was a phenom. I once saw him make an inside pass in an open-wheeled sprint car, run over the guys two left tires with his right side tires, the car nearly flip over and he never even got of the gas. Yes, he made the pass and won the race going away*. Gutsy and exceptionally good. Smooth...He's always been smooth above his years.
Dale Earnhardt came from a different era. He has lost races to prove a point to another driver of how tough he was. Winning was everything, but so was machismo. Gordon will never be "that guy". There probably never will be another "That Guy". The sport looks down on it today. The truth is, if a young Dale Earnhardt tried to break into NASCAR today, NASCAR would shut him down, fine him until he was broke, and keep taking points from his team until it dissolved. That's todays NASCAR, unfortunately.
As far as Dale, Jr goes? He's not even in the same league, and never will be. He will never match either the wins of his father or Gordon. What he does have is Market-ability. I suppose that's all that matters. He has less wins than several drivers over the past 3 years, yet earns top 10 in active United States athletes. *He made $57 million last year, of which $50 million were endorsements. With that type of marketing success, does he really care who wins the most races? I doubt it.

I am huge Gordon Fan; yet I look at him and I look at Dale and the various things each of them had to deal with in their Careers.
There are tons of arguments for and against either one of them and being a Gordon Fan I know I have my own biases. '
Dale Sr. was an incredible Driver and broke allot of records and set some new ones along the way. He defined the Era in which he raced in.
However Jeff Gordon changed the landscape of NASCAR. He brought it out of the South and into the rest of the Country. A California Native raised in Indiana he gave the Fans in the West and Mid-west someone to cheer for.
Before Jeff Gordon; NASCAR was dying in the West. I was there when they had the last Winston Western 500 and witnessed the death of NASCAR in the West. Jeff Gordon resurrected NASCAR in the West and now we have 3 races in California and two in Arizona.
Dale Sr. was an awesome Driver and had 7 Championships; but he did not change the landscape of NASCAR like Jeff Gordon did. That is why Dale Fans hate Gordon so much; because he took NASCAR from being exclusively Southern and made it a National Phenomena.

Jeff Gordon is a better driver in my book, whether you are talking about Earhardt Sr. or Jr. He ended Sr's domination era and made it his own, and Jr. will never have as many Cups or even wins as Gordon. Say what you want, Gordon got his wins fairly, and in the modern racing era when there was more competition than just 3 or 4 great drivers. Bring on the thumbs down and the harsh comments.
As for personality, I've never met either of the Earnhardts, but Gordon is extremely likable in person. He has a great attitude and is a genuinely good guy, as I'm sure both Earnhardts were and are.

Dale Earnhardt all they way......He is the better driver and person. He isn't all that selfcentered like Gordon. He also has more records and he would be leading in the most races won if he were still alive. Dale Sr. is a living legend!!

Really hard to say, Jeff Gordon was being groomed by Ford in the Busch Series when Hendricks waved "BIG" money at him and wooed him to his multi, multi-million dollar operation. Jeff Gordon has never had to drive anything less than upper echelon racecars since coming to NASCAR. Dale Jr. hasn't had the luxury of the deep-pockets Hendricks operation class of cars. For fun let's put Dale Jr. In a Childress car and Jeff Gordon in a Michael Waltrip car, then see what's up with driving skill and ability to win often. Jeff Gordon couldn't handle a second or third tier raceteam week after week, he's a spoiled primmadonna! Gee, sorry to upset you SamR. I guess you're not up to a challenge or willing to engage thought.

Without question, Jeff Gordon is the better driver. Earnhardt Sr. got his wins by being the big bully on the track - thus, the moniker "Intimidator." Gordon wins by driving smart. Jr.'s record speaks for itself.
The better person? All three are persons I would like to have as buddies. And I will add Mark Martin, Jeff Burton and Elliott Sadler to that list.

In my opinion, Dale Earnhardt is better driver, and Gordon better person. If you are talking Jr. than I think Gordon is the better driver and Earnhardt Jr. is a better person.
