Your best bet is to go to a local insurance broker - especially if you already have a relationship with them for your car insurance or homeowners/renter's insurance. Tell them what you need in a plan and they will do whatever they can to shop the best deal for you. (They often have "in's" where they can get a better deal than the average person calling a plan and asking for the best price.)

I don't know where mbrcatz is, but the premiums where she is are expensive! I can insure a 5 year old in my area for about $50 a month with $500 deductible and office co-pay and RX card included. I can't guess at your premium without more info. That will vary from one zip code/county/state to another. Your age, health status, occupation and tobacco usage also make a big difference.
Find a good independent agent in your area and let them do the leg work for you. There are lots of options out there. I suggest you contact 2 different agents and see what they come up with. One of them may not represent a lot of companies, which is why I suggest you should contact 2.

If you are willing to raise the deductible , then you might be able to get one with a low premium.
Then get a Health benefits discount card. You can save a lot of money doing that. Some people who cannot afford high insurance premiums have this as their only benefit plan.
Here is some information about a good Health benefits card that is very affordable:

OK, are you talking HEALTH insurance?
Mostly, it costs what it costs. If you're 30 & healthy, it's going to cost you ABOUT $250 a month, and your son another $200 a month. The best place to get it from is a local agent, so you're not ripped off.
If someone offers you something, for much less than that, it's not health insurance, it's a ripoff or a scam.

you really need to talk to some insurance brokers and do some research based on where you live, coverages you desire, etc.
