God did not guide that...
She has had the basic intellectual honesty necessary in all of us to determine right vs wrong through life experiences regardless of teachings.

Sounds much like myself - raised by a bitter, hateful drunk of a mother who said things like "You will never amount to anything" and "having you ruined my life".
Its all good!! Dont feel sorry, dont apologize for her actions - just know that I too have grown up to see beauty and wonder in life... I might be an atheist, but I still care about life, our environment and our survival as a species.

I agree, it is amazing to meet people who can come from awful backgrounds and still be selfless, caring people. In fact, some people who have terrible childhoods are even more caring than most, perhaps because they understand unhappiness and have a deeper empathy with others. The world needs more people like that...if only more people who grew up loved and nurtured would grow up as caring as we would think it would be easy for them to be.

only by the grace and love of God are people able to rise and overcome. Without our heavenly father to love us, thats why so many folks come out bitter and unforgiving.. they carry alot of baggage. Jesus died on the cross and took away all that mess. God's Mercy is awesome

I had a horrible childhood. I'm still a very compassionate person. But whether I've risen above the bitterness and anger remains to be seen.

It is amazing when this happens.
Most atheists I know have had to struggle and do this same thing, and were able to rise above the bitter dogma, prejudices and ignorance professed by the faiths of their parents and acknowledge reality despite being discriminated for it.
In fact religious upbringing can be so traumatizing that there are psychiatrists who specialize in helping people (often atheists/agnostics) cope with their abusive and horrific childhood experiences with religion.

Pure grace. Usually they have spent alot of time reflecting on their own selves too and have a tremendous ability to forgive. I think it goes along the lines of the most generous people are usually the poorest people. Poor people will share just about anything they get.

No it's not amazing. My sisters and I grew up with alcoholics who mentally and physically abused us, and people will say we are the nicest people they know. I have depression problems, but I am never mean to anyone. And I wouldn't blame that on my parents if I did have bitterness towards other people. I think a person is either good or bad with no one to blame either way. Also, God had nothing to do with it.

It can be quite inspiring. I was just reading about a girl who was molested by this man for about a year then kidnapped and held prisoner for three months. He raped her everyday, and brainwashed her. He had been molested by two other men earlier in her life. She was found by the police and she went on with her life. She's in college now earning her degree.
I'm sorry. Was this supossed to be about religion.

God brought this very person to you, so you could write about it and inspire others.
God bless you again, and forevermore.
It's beautiful when you meet good people regardless of their backgrounds who have something in common, something to share, and just are genuine, and kind.
