Yes and every day. Since the Holy Spirit is always a gentleman, He would never force the gift on someone who is uncomfortable with it. But as someone expressed here it is a powerful tool for intercession. I often pray first in tongues and then in English, allowing the Holy Spirit to commune with my Spirit the will of God in the matter so that I might know better how to pray.
Also, for those of you who yearn for this gift, keep seeking it. I had a little bit of a struggle to yield to the gift the day that I was baptized in the Spirit. But I was told to just open my mouth and pray with the rest of those praying with me, in anything but English. It worked just fine.

I have been filled with the Holy Spirit & pray in tongues fairly regularily, according to the Spirit direction.
Tripple tatoo, you can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit if you ask Jesus or the Father. God gives if you ask. Then you have to act out to receive it. Also, to receive this gift there has to be a moment when someone else with the gift prayed over you. And then it could happen at your home later or when the person has prayed the filling of the Holy Spirit over you. Sometimes it isn't tongues, but proclaiming the wonders of God like never before in your own language. You know you have been filled with the Holy Spirit if you just overwhelmingly love God & your hands reach to your heavenly daddy. But to receive the gift you have to start praising God out loud. This is trusting the Holy Spirit with your voice. It is faith & trust in God. Then the love of God grows & with that the Holy Spirit manifests a gift of God.

Any one who confesses to be a Christian and is baptised receives the Holy Spirit. Yes, I am a baptised Christian, who has received the Holy Spirit. No, I do not speak in tongues.
You do not have to speak in tongues in order to receive the Holy Spirit. Both Jesus and John the Baptist were baptised and God even came down to Jesus like a dove and said,
"This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased." Neither Jesus or John the Baptist spoke in tongues.

I was baptized with the Holy Spirit the moment I received Christ and was born-again. All born-again believers have received the Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:9).
I do not have the gift of tongues and neither do most people who claim to speak in tongues. The gift of tongues is the ability to speak in a language that can be interpreted, as a sign for unbelievers. It is not a "personal prayer language". (Although if you want to pray to God using ecstatic speech, go ahead, just don't say that it is the gift of tongues working). This gift is given out by the Holy Spirit as He wills, not as the gift that's a sign of the Holy Spirit's presence.
At Pentecost, Peter and the Apostles were able to preach the Gospel using the gift of tongues to communicate with people in their own language. Unless you are using tongues to do this, I wouldn't think that this really builds God's kingdom -the actual purpose for any and all the gifts, the edification of others, not ourselves . You should not be boasting about any spiritual gift, but rather boast in knowing Christ.

you're very enthuastic, however the Bible says you're incorrect. What persons say does no longer rely as you propose yet while God says it you incredibly could take be conscious. All Christians are baptized by utilising the Holy Spirit, for the reason that's what makes you a Christian. a million Cor 12:13 For by utilising one Spirit we've been all baptized into one physique, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or loose, and we've been all made to drink of one Spirit.

Dear ladyeagle7,
I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit. I do not speak in tongues, but do have the gift of teaching and prophesizing (not telling the future- but just sharing God's word with people).
Hope that this information helps you for whatever reason you are asking.
Kindly,
Nickster

I have been baptized as a baby and also as an adult.
No, I do not speak with tongues in the meaning it is here. I do not believe it is necessary because God understands any language, no language is better than others. I also firmly believe that since it is a language that no one else but the person and God understands, it should be kept private..unless you have the person who can interpret it to others.
I strongly believe that speaking tongues should be kept out of the church unles you have person who can tell to others what is going on. It is confusing and disruptive at the church. Some people NEED this kind of experiences to have a better relationship with God, I am not one of them. : )

Its a gift that can be used at will whenever someone chooses to use it. Sometimes while praying intently on something it will just happen naturally. We don't know how to pray sometimes and so the Holy Spirit will intercede for us by using tongues. It's not always necessary or required and is useful at times.
