Depends on the breed and to an extent how well it was cared for. They can live up to 20 yrs typically. After that is pushing it but you will find some that get to be quite elderly. Most cat's will die by around 15.

It's a little like people some live to 100 most die around 70. If you were old youd be a little off too.

If the cats behavior has changed drastically then it's time for the vet to rule out disease. If not and it just gets cranky sometimes-then someone is pissing the cat off and since cats cant talk he is letting that person know.

It differs for indoor and outdoor or both. I have a indoor cat that is 14 years old and still full of life. Indoor cats an live anywhere from 11-18+ years! Outdoor cats normally live 4-7 years. Indoor/outdoor cats 8-11+ It also depends on the diet and general health.

A well cared for cat may live to 20 years or more. My dad had one that was 24 years old when it died. Last year my 19 year old girl passed away. I read that the average life span for an outdoor cat is 3 years, and for an indoor cat it is 13 years - big difference, huh, obviously because they are so much safer inside. Rather sad too to think how many die so young when they might live to a ripe old age if only someone cared.

From age 1-3, it is a young cat (human age 17-23). Ages 4-9, an adult cat (human age 35-53). Ages 10+, a "senior" cat (human age 60-100+). Average? About 15 years. My oldest cat ever lived to age 21 (about 90 in a human). Please take your cat to a vet--he/she may have a health problem causing this behavior. The biting and "going mad" can be symptoms of anything from serious pain to plain old age.

Cats are a little mad anyway. The random bites etc occur from kittens to adult and senior cats. Actually they are calmer when they are old.
As for age, they can reach 20-23 years old, but often they have health problems around the age 0f 15 and some of them die between 14-20. Of course many die earlier because of diseases, cancers, etc., just like humans.

cats lives are very unpredictable some live 14 years some live 18,and some live to be 23.it all just depends on how healthy the cat is.. and yeah i would say that the old age is effecting the way it is acting.. just think. that cat is around about in its 70's (in human years)maybe a bit old.. how would you like it if someone came up and tryed playing with you?? lol id be a bit grumpy too..lol..

Well, 16 is getting a bit old. But if the cat is turning nasty, it probably isn't just age, but rather some physical problem making it feel cranky. A vet should check it out.

Cats are like the Everready Bunny. They just keep going and going and going.
16 is old for a cat, but you won't find an expiration date stamped on her.
Perhaps a trip to the vet might be the thing to do if he acts like this. maybe he can help .

Cats can live to be 19 or 20 if you take real good care of them.
And your friend's cat doesn't do that because it's old. Cat's actually get calmer as they age. Is your friend's cat a girl? If it is, it could just be going through heat. Which is like having a period, exept cat version. When female cats are in heat, they are friskier.
