i have Adobe Photoshop 7.0, i use the blur tool, dodge tool, burn tool, smudge tool, or sponge tool, it depends on the skin tone, and texture of the skin .
Im not sure if you can get a free trial of this version, and im not sure what tools 5.0 has, but if it has those, try just expirementing with those tools.

I'm not sure of all the differences between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, but in Photoshop you could us the following tools. First us "Clone" to get rid of the more prominent blemishes. Then us "Smudge" to blend and smooth the facial features. And finally you can use "blur" to do any final blending that may be required.

There is a tool in photoshop call the magic stamper, You can use it to pain over part of the picture with another picture or part of the same picture. Basicly you alt+click to tell it where to copy from and then click somewhere eles to paint over that part of the picture. You will need to Alt click on a clear spot of skin, then paint over the spots you want to changed.
