Make sure the litter box is cleaned out really well each day, as cats won't use a dirty litter box. Your cat needs to see a vet before he gets dehydrated. He may have an infection or something. Make sure your cat is up to date on all of his shots. Good luck!

He may have a urinary track infection which is quite common in cats. If he associates the pain with the litter box then he will stay away from it. You need to take him to a vet first to rule out any medical problems. Also, make sure your cat has fresh water available everyday and that you feed him canned foods because they contain a lot of water. Don't just feed him dry food. Cats need to drink lots of water to stay healthy. Also make sure the litter box is clean. Cats hate dirty litter boxes. They have to be scooped EVERY DAY.

If the cat is not sick, then it must be lonely. Hey, human needs love. What do you think when it comes to an animal who 24 hours show love to you? Come on, that cat is trying to find a mate. I bet so. When my cat is not behaving as it was, I somehow knew what happen. And it was a sad decision to let her go. But pets returns... but changed and it will be bad. So, either you decide to tell the cat that you want it to be with you ONLY, then you better start finding some mates for your pet... ASAP!

If the cat is very old, it could have lost its bladder control. Otherwise, I would try a different cat litter. If this doesn't work, take kitty to vet asap, probably an infection!

Cats are extremly picky. Make sure its(Litterbox) extra clean. Have you changed the litter or food type? Or even the place of his litterbox and food? Unless he has serious unnormal signs, wait a few days and then see if you should take him to the doctor. Maybe a little cold or somthing.

Take him to the vet ASAP. I mean right now!!! Don't wait even for an hour. He may have a urinary tract infection or worse crystals that block his urethra. This can be lethal within hours. Take him to the vet and start feeding him food for urinary problems, Hill's s/d or c/d or Urinary of Eucanuba or Royal Canin. he may need medication too.

It can mean any number of things, some of them suggested in previous answers. Some of them can be serious, so this is something you want to look into.
