get a small airline approved carrier and put it under the seat and you should be okay doing that just make sure you call the airline ahead of time and they know you are bringing your dog with you . good luck and happy flying .

The dog can go but must travel in the hold compartment with the luggage. You should get a dog coat made for it or bought as it can get very cold in there. You need to take it to the vet to have a pet passport inserted under its skin{like a chip}. The airline must also be informed of course. Not sure what type of box it goes in.

Call the airline. Most airlines allow dogs to travel down below. Each airline has it's own policies so you really have to check with your specific airline. You most likely will need a certificate from the vet (which just says that the dog is up to date on it's shots and is in good health).
Also, attach your address to the dog's crate somewhere for easy identification.

Where is here?

You'll have to pay for the transportation, and you'll need a passport (I know...) to prove that it has had all the right injections and is not carrying any diseases.

Check the consulate websites of the countries you are visiting to get the formalities.

You should call the airline you are flying on for more information, that would be your best way of finding out how it works.

HMS Customs and Excise for transport legalities and Defra for health and well being issues.

All you have to do is! if he's trained, walk him with the leash on! when you get to the "plane steps/stairs and you're unsure, pck him up and carry him aboard, has he /she got a passport? lol.
