Take its temperature. The only way.
That is one of the easiest things you should know how to do. Have the vet show you next time you are there. DOn't just do it from what is said here.

As far as telling if your dog is sick, the cold wet nose thing is an old wives tale. I rely more on how the ears look and feel and then take the dog's temp if they seem hot or look red.

Cold wet nose is normal- dry warm nose is not.
