Yes, if the wedding is at night, because night weddings are more formal and are traditionally black-tie affairs. Since many people own black evening dresses, you probably wouldn't be alone with your black dress. However, if it is a daytime wedding, you'll see more people wearing floral sundresses and light-colored clothes, and a black dress may look out of place during the day. Don't forget- many brides are now having their bridesmaids wear black dresses, so it is totally acceptable.

If you are from the USA I have noticed that a lot of people are REALLY critical about what people can or cannot wear. Here in the UK we are a bit more open minded, and black is a classic, so I would feel really happy wearing a black dress to a wedding, and I am getting married this year and if any of my guests wore black I would think nothing of it. If you are really worried perhaps check with the bride, but really I see no problem with it. People wear colours to funerals as well, they don't all wear black, so I don't associate black with funerals, I associate it with looking classy

I would say that it depends how you accessorise it. I've worn a black dress to a wedding before but it was an autumn wedding and for the ceremony I wore a cream coat with a black trim over the top. If you perhaps go for a black and white bag, shoes etc, I would think you could get away with it. Otherwise I think you'll look like you're in mourning for the couple instead of celebrating. To sound terribly English, it just wouldn't be good form. Sorry!

Outdoor or daytime wedding. NO, no and no.

Black tie, evening affair, maybe.

Also, if it's a catholic or religious wedding, or is held in part of the country in which they are supertitious, or if they are older people in atendance, you might want to reconsider your outfit, so you don't offend anyone.

There are some religious and superstitious connotations associated with a black dress. Some people believe that if you wear a black dress to a wedding, you don't approve of the union! Black is also associated with mourning, which is better suited for a funeral.

A dress in summery colours is better suited for a wedding in my opinion.

The issue here is wether or not someone would feel offended, Same consideration should be taken when attending afuneral;...would you dare to dress in a red dress? It's a matter of respect and consideraton of others, but if the bride is ok with it.. well, then wear it.

Good luck

I think it depends. If it's an evening marriage or in the winter than maybe. But brighter colours would be better for a summer wedding. 'Though I did go to my friend's outdoor ceremony last Saturday in Vancouver. The weather was really hot and there were a couple of women wearing all black dresses.

But then again, the focus isn't gonna be on you, right? Wear what makes you comfortable and have fun! :)

If the wedding is in the evening and it is formal- go for it. But if it is in the morning or afternoon, I would not wear a solid black dress.
In general, black is fine for a wedding, but I would find a dress with a pattern.

Totally, cause no doubt you will have accessories - you could add a splash of colour then. I was at a neighbours wedding and the 3 bridesmaids wore really simple gorgeous elegant solid black dresses - v.classy. Who are the fashion police anyway!!!!!111

I wore a solid black pantsuit to a wedding, the bride even commented on good it looked!
I would say if the bride won't be offended then go for it!

Yes it is! Black is no longer a color reserved for funerals. It is an elegant and simple color to wear. You can dress it up with some pretty jewelry and cute shoes!

Most definetly! If you feel you must have some color add a flower pin on your shoulder the same color as the wedding party, or wear a colored hat. Wear what you feel comfortable in and what flatters you the most.
