not understanding.. spouses do not get leave from the military, only the Servicemember does.

Spouses can only get time off from their jobs if they are entitled to some according to their employer's rules and regs.

Are you a State employee, or are you talking about maybe a law regarding the general population of employers here? I am not quite sure which it is.

If you are a California State employee and have leave credits, then put in a request for time off. You could also talk to your union representative to find out if there is a clause in the contract that permits this.

If you are not a California State employee then you need to talk to your employer about taking time off.
