Parakeets are not stupid like some thing. They are very loyal a dn affectionate and probably out of all of the bird family less destructive! They can learn to talk , sing and minic most sounds. Conures are lovely little parrots and a bit larger than a parrokeet. The have pretty much the same personalities of a parakeet. Cockatiels are fun birds , yet again a little larger than a conure. They are a little more timid and quieter than the other two. The larger parrots are nice to look at but you have to be a very devoted owner and companion for the larger breeds. They can be extrememly moody and destructive if not handled properly. Cockatoos, among some of the others, are notorious for chewing your house up if ignored and not kept busy. Some if you read up on the birds and have a lot of patience and time to spend with them then you can take your choice. If not sick with the smaller gentlier breeds.

Parrots aren't for everybody.

If you're a kid (and I'm guessing you are at least a teenager), you have to take into consideration that most parrots can live a LONG time. What will you do with this bird when you go off to college? You can't bring it with you if you're staying in a dorm.
There's also the noise and messiness factors. Can you stand loud noises (ALL parrots are noisy, some more than others). ALL parrots are messy, and not just poop-messy.

I suggest a cockatiel. They're only a little less "stupid" than a parakeet (which I think are actually pretty smart if you take the time to teach it something).

Please do some research before you get any pet.
As responder above said, some parrots can live 20 to 30 years. These birds become a part of your family. I love my Quaker Parrot which is really a large parakeet. He can talk, do tricks, and is quite cute and cuddly.
But he is noisy and does take a lot of care.
Look at some sites on-line for more information on different types of birds.

BirdTalk magazine will give you a lot of facts and hints.

Birds are only as interesting as their owner's are.How much time and effort you can give a bird. I suspect you meant to say Budgie, which are small, can be taught to talk and do tricks just as Some larger birds can.
Do your home work and learn about the differnt avain species.Larger means more expence for bird, cage, food, toy's. Also means you need have bird experience if you want a well adjusted and behaved captive bird. Larger birds require more knowledge for several reason's and personal safety, for them and for you from a bad bite. Learn all you can before you bring a bird into your home and life, do it for both the bird's sake and your's.

Parrots make messes, can scream, can bond to only one person, and can also be completely and utterly wonderful. It really depends on what kind of bird you want. I really wanted a macaw or a cockatoo. But after doing research I found it would not suit my family. Macaws are huge and little kids could be missing a hand later. Cockatoos are fluffy snuggle birds that require lots of attention and are messy, loud and are prone to feather plucking. Not good for me with two toddlers. I dont need more mess to clean up and the one on one attention just wouldnt be enough. I also looked at an african grey but they bond with one person and I didnt want my kids to go to pick it up and get bit. I ended up with an eclectus. They are semi messy..depending on how much soft food you give them. They are loud only if they learn it from you, they bond with everyone, and dont require tons of attention. It just depends on what your lifestyle is. If you have no kids and dont plan on it ever get a cockatoo..they are really snuggly and its like having a toddler with you. If you already have a family I would choose a parrot that doesnt bond to only one person. Bottom line..they all can be messy, loud, demanding and can feather pluck. You just have to find the one you can live with for the rest of your life. Its not a comittment to be taken lightly. They take a lot of time no matter which one.
