Try a sponsored run, if you're up to it. Or organise a party / event and sell tickets for it - you'd be amazed how much you can raise, especially if you have a raffle at the event. A lot of local businesses or individuals will donate items, especially if there's a reasonable degree of publicity (ie local newspaper present). We held a ball in aid of Diabetes UK which took a lot of organising but raised over £30,000 for the charity. It doesn't need to be something on such a grand scale - try organising a Halloween party or a Jazz evening or something. If you ask around and get a committee together, you'll be surprised how many people have skills or know people who will be useful.
Best of luck!

Sponsorship is definitely a great way to go. There is another idea, but you don't say how old you are so:
If you have a job, ask your Human Resources department whether they have a matching program. Some companies will match contributions up to a certain level. This allows you to get your co-workers involved.
If you are a student or currently unemployed, check with family to see if their employers will participate in the above.
Consider enlisting your friends to make items for a bake sale. Instead of putting prices on the items, make it a "by donation" event. People are usually very generous because they know they're getting home-made goods and if they know the money is for a charitable event, they're happy to kick in a bit more.
I've fallen in love with the show CASH IN THE ATTIC. Since it's based in the UK, why not contact them to see whether you might qualify. Get your friends/family involved .. have them bring over items that might raise money. CITA will have access to auction houses that will contact good patrons to help publicize the event in the name of the charity.
Contact the Cancer Society and see if they've got any events going on that you could spin off from...
Whatever you do, contact local newspapers to see about some free advertising for your various events. News publications are always looking for small blurbs to fill unused space in their pages so they should be happy to work with you.
Good luck - you're doing a fine thing!

When in doubt, ask a celebrity to help You by any means available to them. Such things as a Public Request for donations, either money or personal items that can be auctioned off. Rock Stars, and Sporting personalities are particularly good at this sort of thing. People (fans) will pay good money for old "T" shirts that have been autographed. It never hurts to ask.
Good luck with Your project. Cheers, Ashleigh.

I have done many things for charity and find the biggest money spinners are things which call for sponsorship...it means a lot of hard work getting people/businesses. organisations to sponsor you but the rewards are terrific.
"Firewalking" is my favourite...try:-

Other things like parachute jumping, sponsored walks/swims/hikes/cycle rides etc etc.
Hope that helps. Best wishes, Mike.

Getting sponsored to do things like running, hiking, being completely waxed, bathing in baked beans: that kinda thing. To raise awareness of what you're doing try putting ads in the local newspapers.

try doing a walk with several people carrying buckets if people see you doing it properly and well organised they will give you money for your charity. my uncle walked 15 miles with is friends to raise money for the lukiemia trust and he raised over £10000 all because he got diagnosed with it so i thought it would be nice to raise a bit of money for them.
