my sons first b-day was simple, mommy, daddy, grandma and grandpa. No party, just a cake. We gave him a cupcake and he destroyed it!!! A party is too overwhelming at that age, save it for a later date.

This will all depend on how much you would like to spend. When my niece turned 1, we reserved a private room at a very nice Italian restaurant. Approximately, 50 guests, (majority were adults) attended and enjoyed a full course family style dinner that was absolutely wonderful. We opened gifts, enjoyed watching the birthday girl get messy with her first cake and presented all the guests with a bottle of Sparkling Cider to take home, since the season was Fall as a Thank you for attending the celebration.
When my friends little one turned 1, they had a fantastic birthday party at home with roughly 35 people. They had family members help out by bringing an appetizer, salad, etc., while the parent's ordered a HUGE party sub that was delicious. The birthday boy opened his gifts with the help of his parent's and then got real MESSY with cake. What I really enjoyed at this party was the pictures. The parent's had two poster boards, one marked newborn - 6 months and one marked 6-12 months. They were both filled with photos of baby with different family members and friends. Everyone seemed to really like looking at these.
Hope this helped!

BABY'S 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY TIPS
Keep the party short 1- 1/12 hours is about the
most a one year old can handle without getting over
stimulated and possibly cranky.Schedule around nap times. Late morning, allows for a morning nap or late afternoon to allow for an afternoon nap. Most first birthday parties are for the adults in your child's life (family and friends). Invite the most special friends and relatives. Keep it to a manageable number of guests for you and your space. Keep in mind, that you will be caring for your little one at the same time.Although it is not necessary to provide a meal, finger foods are always nice. Especially with babies.Be flexible!!!! All parents know that children and their behaviors are not predictable. Un-scheduled rests, tears, accidents etc. are to be expected at a baby's first birthday. Just relax and go with the flow.Baby proof the party space

I always had a great big 1st birthday party for my kids. They only turn 1 once! No, she will not remember it, but what we do for them when they are little are the roots for them as they get bigger. I would invite everyone who loves her and surround her with love on her very 1st special birthday.
