Oh, please don't declaw your cat!

You have several options:

Scratching posts (upright posts, flat posts, hanging posts- try all kinds). My cats have 4 posts that are different textures and shapes. Lots of praise when they use it. Rubbing catnip on them helps too.

Squirt bottle to spray them when you catch them scratching things they shouldn't be.

Sticky Paws- this is basically double sided tape developed to put on furniture. This works wonder to stop mine!

Good luck!

1. Use claw caps (www.softpaws.com)
2. Careful, don't ever consider declawing. Apart from the amputating awful part, it can cause worse problems.
3. When you see her scratching something she must not, grab her softly, say NO, and take her to her scratching mat. Encourage her to scratch that abd reward her (say well done and pet her) every time she scratches her scratching post. Do that every single time she tries to scratch the furniture. It has worked with all my cats, but I did it consistently when they were kittens.

it's very hard to train cats. you can try buying cat scratch pads for him/or her to use instead of furniture. also i would get a squirt bottle and spray it with water whenever it gets on furniture he's not supposed to be on. if nothing really works your only option may be to declaw your cat, ive had to do that before.

Try a cardboard scratcher. They are inexpensive (about $5) and cats love them! Keeping your cats nails clipped also helps. They sell tape that is sticky on both sides. You can put it on the surfaces that your cat is scratching and it usually keeps them from scratching because they don't like the way that it feels. If all else fails try soft paws.
Please don't declaw though, that's mean :(

It is very important to get a scratching pad. They will use this if you get it. My cat did the same thing before i bought a scratching pad.

fold some tape so that it has two sticky sides and tape it on were you're cat likes to shred, and it wont like how the tape feels,it wont hurt you're cat.
