I got pulled over coming out of my works parking lot. This a private parking lot is owned by at&t. There is no posted stop/yeild sign. The cop stated that I failed to stop...and wrote me a $147 ticket. What should I do?

You have to stop, and yield to a through street.

Go to the court hearing date... it should be on the ticket and plead not guilty or no contest (if you did it but had a reason)... be prepared to plead your case to the judge. (Even though there is no stop sign ...it still may be a violation not to stop.. especially if a car was coming when you pulled out) Usually courts will reduce the costs if you plead no contest but you will have to pay court costs.... usually the total is still less than the $147.00. The $147.00 is probably a waiver where if you pay it you agree that you committed the violation. You should be able to find a web site with the traffic violation codes for your state online. Check your State's attorney general's website and look up the violation - this may give you more of an idea if you violated or not.

I believe the first thing for you to do is to gain a better understanding of the section you were cited for and how the officer applied it to your driving omission. You can find a vehicle code in your library reference section. Read it and see what it says. Then go back and review the driving movement you made that caused the officer to cite for that particular section. If there's still something you don't fully understand, consider flagging an officer down in that area and asking him about how the section is applied. After all this you're going to have a few options. Either you've confirmed that the office cited you for something that does not apply to what you did, hence a good reason to go to court, or....you find out that it really is a violation and you didn't know it beforehand, and you'll owe the fine. Traffic school is a good deal usually, because successful completion means the violation is stricken from your record (if you haven't gone to the school previously). Just some suggestions.

Did you (or almost) run into someone? Then it would be "fail to yield from private drive" (at least here in Ontario).
Here in my city we can't give "fail to stop" tickets for the entrances to private property. You are required to yield the right of way to pedestrians or vehicles, but don't have to stop.
Take some pictures of the area and take it to court.

Pay the ticket or go to traffic school.
Most states have a law that refers to stopping before entering a public road. Regardless of posted traffic control devices. Since you are exiting private land it's the responsibility of the land owners to post a sign, not the municipalities. However, sign or not the law still stands.

I would dispute the ticket. Depends on what state you live in, but you may be able to do it through the mail. Read the back of your ticket. I have disputed two tickets for my boss by mail and got the fines reduced significantly. Worth a try.

Sorry, man, I think that if the stop sign is in the lot then they can't do anything. But if you are leaving a parking lot to enter a public road you are required to stop if theres a sign of not. Thats the best I can remember.

Pay the ticket. A stop sign is not necessary at the entry to a road, a stop is required before entering any roadway from parking or other non-road place.

Pay the ticket, but if you are sure you are in the right go to court. If the policeman doesn't show up you'll get off because you have the right to face your accuser-so if he doesn't show you're free. Often the accusing police officer won't come to court because they have to do it on the their day off. Of course, this depends upon where you live.
I heard this procedure on television from a lawyer.
Your call.

If you did fail to stop, then you're in the wrong. At any access road going onto a public road you are required to stop before entering traffic. Pay the fine and let it drop.

In my state, if you are coming out of a driveway you must stop at the sidewalk and when safe to proceed stop again at the street until safe to proceed. Granted, a lot of people don't but it is the law.

Pay the fine, learn the lesson.
