I have severe muscle spasms in my neck/shoulders. I also have peripheral neuropathy that affects my arms and legs. I have arthritis in my neck and lower back. I have loose ligaments in my shoulders that cause pain - and should keep my shoulder muscles strong to ease that pain.

Walking too much hurts. I'm told that lifting light weights can worsen muscle spasms - so can't exercise those muscles. Too much activity period makes me hurt worse.

Any suggestions? I'm on a ton of meds -one for tachycardia....so too much activity increases my pulse - and then I feel crappy with my heart pounding.

In your condition, I really recommend you to do Pilates.

Pilates is suitable for anyone, even those who have severe health condition.

But I do think you'd best clear with your doctor first before you start Pilates.

It's a very gentle and soothing exercise, focusing on your abs, lower back, butts and thighs but not neglecting your arms, legs, chest and shoulder too. You exercise, strenghten, tone, stretch and sculpt your entire body all at one go!

It's a vergy good exercise for relieving pains and aches as well.

Try it.

What kind of exercise to decrease fat? LOL. The kind where you move things. The easiest exercise is walking. It burns half the calories of a vigorous workout. The best exercise is something you enjoy; like shaking your booty to some good music. Weight control is bone simple. To be thin you must stop eating like a fat person. Eat moderate amounts of good food & get some daily exercize, and you will become thin. Eat large amounts of junk food, & get no exercize, and you will become fat. It's tragicly simple really, but people spend millions looking for a nonexistant exception. Good Luck. JFTR. Lost 55lbs (220 to 165) by eating moderate amounts of good food and getting a little exercize. No pills, no traumatic diets.

The best exercise is in water. Swimming is by far the least stressful exercise and it moves every part of your body. Most community centers have water exercise classes. You can also ask your medical doctor about these classes and their locations .

Acupuncture, which involves inserting thin needles into various points on your body, may reduce peripheral neuropathy symptoms.
