I have walked two marathon's when i was younger and my mother told me to have some cotton wool and rub Methalated Spirits into the bottom of your feet, around your toes and heels. Iknow it doesn't sound very nice but it works a treat.

I was a walking to coach for the Breast Cancer 3 Day (60 miles) and had many people on my team get blisters from walking. If you have a blister already, you need to drain the liquid out of it (use a clean pin to make a small hole). You need to keep emptying it if the fluid refills. Then try second skin (LOVE this stuff) you can get it at your local sporting good store. Second skin comes with a gel cushion to put on blisters and then band-aids to go over the gel. Then look into purchasing walking socks (also at the sporting good store). These socks are made to absorb moisture which is what causes blisters. They are also made to have more cushion in the areas that tend to hurt walkers (like the heel and ball of your foot). DO NOT buy cotton socks!! Cotton will absorb the moisture from your sweating feet and will wreak havoc on your feet! Best of luck in your marathon!!

Good socks, shoes that fit properly, and staying dry are the best way to prevent blisters. Athletic tape can be applied in trouble spots to prevent blisters or to stop blisters from getting worse. There is also band-aid brand "Blister block" that does the same thing as tape albeit with easier application.
See links for more info.

Every evening before bed, bathe the soles of your feet in surgical spirit - just get some cotton wool and dab liberally all over. This will harden the skin - in two weeks time your feet will be robust enough to prevent blisters. If you already have them, try not to "pop" them, just let them subside naturally. The longer the tender skin underneath is protected by the outer layer, the longer it has to harden, and the less pain for you. Good Luck

To prevent them wear a good pair of walking shoes. Get fitted at a regular shoe store where they measure your feet etc and fit you for shoes. Buy a good pair of cotton socks that have lots of cushioning per say. Lotion your feet daily to keep them in top condition. If you do get blisters soak your feet after the marathon and just let the blisters heal on their own.

There are these socks you can get that are quite thin but have two layers. Which means any rubbing and its the layers that move and not your shoes against your feet. I wasn't sure if they worked or not but so far no blisters. The only downside is I cannot remember where I got them from (sorry),

Dab them with potassium potash. You can buy the crystals at a good chemist and dilute with water. It prevents infection and hardens the skin.
Also good for treating adder snake bites! On the downside it stains brown.
