Sorry but there is no answer to this question. Its like asking who's the best singer in the United States? Tattooing isn't a contest to see who is best. Some tattooists are extremely good a color work but their black and grey work sucks. Some tattooists can do great black and grey but can't do a portrait worth a crap........ There is no Best in the USA there is however a handful of artists who stand head and shoulders above the rest (and NO you won't see them on Miami Ink).

Rider (inky but not stinky)

"Kat von D"- LA Ink TV Show "Chris Garver or Tim Hendriks"- Miami Ink TV Show. I live in Australia so I cant say too much, though I watch these artists at work on TLC channel and they are all great at portraits especially Kat & Tim. I think it is possible to get on these shows by applying on there websites. There is probably a big waiting list, though it would be worth the wait. They are always wanting real people with real stories on there show and if I was in the US thats where I would try first.

Depends on what sort of tattoo it is that you want.

My personal favorite is Paul Booth. But, that is only because I favor more of the macabre and dark sort of thing.
