I bought one for both my yound children. My oldest loved it and learned to swim pretty fast. My youngest doesnt like wearing it. She would rather be in one of the baby tubes or arm wings. When we put arm wings and the suit on it she did good for aobut 20 minutes then didnt like it. Id say it all depends on the age of the child and the child in general. But they are a good investment if your child will wear them. And the ones at walmart wont cost you an arm and a leg. Cheaper isnt always better though so keep that in mind when looking for one!! Good Luck

It depends on what you are buying it for. If its just for swimming in the pool or at the beach. Yes they are a good investment, but they still dont replace proper supervision. If you need a life vest to go boating or use on some other type of water craft you need a life vest approved by the coast guard.

Personally, I do not like them. The one I bought my daughter seemed to ride up her neck whenever she sat down or was in the water, having a sort of choking effect, and before anyone makes a comment, yes I tried it on her first. She hated it, kept pulling at it and trying to pull it down. It was just to bulky for her to move around good in. I think it was more of a hazard than a safety device. Thats my personal experience, your may be different, but I say go with the swim suit and seperate life vest. Good Luck and enjoy the summer :)

I would think so. If it was a swimsuit with a life vest over it the kid would get curious and try to take it off especially if you tell them not to touch it

I found they didn't float very much and I still had to hold my son.He wanted to try to swim but was subjected to stay on my hip.
I used a life jacket and then we progressed to arm floaters. Both seemed to work better then the swimsuit with the built in life vest.

My daughter loved her swimsuit with the life vest built right in. It was nice to have her in something that would not slide off or come off. I liked the built in kind however, you need to be careful to buy one that doesn't keep your child on their tummy. Hope this helps.

The built in vests are a nice convenience but remember a toddler should NEVER be left in the water by themselves. Adult supervision, with an adult IN THE WATER, is always needed.

Don't forget the sunscreen :)

They are really nice once your toddler learns to kick their feet - I have trained two daughters and a niece with these types of suits. The full torso ones are ok, but until the child learns to kick their feet, the body will lay flat - sometimes face down in the water. So remember to hold on to them and teach them to kick - almost tread water before teaching them to do anything else with these suits.

My neighbor uses the toddler vest for her child and it really helps alot. Life vests tend to keep the child on their back or front or with it up in their chin. But the toddler one allows them to stay upright.

I hate those..they dont work because of how crazy they get in the pool. Its best to use a standard life vest
