If you have established a relationship with this gentleman and you are looking to help him for the better, you should tell him. With the nicest way you know how, you should tell him that his breath smells bad. Tell him that it is a common problem that can easily be remedied by cleansing the bacteria from his teeth and tongue. ( I know...I had the same problem with my boy friend) Warning.... At first there will be a resentment. I noticed in my case that because of our conversation about it, he was brushing his teeth a lot more often. The problem of bad breath was reduced almost instantly. (Oh yeah tell him to use tooth paste. My boyfriend reluctantly used any toothpaste because he didn't like the taste. I had to insist that he did.) I hope this helps.

Oh, you seem to be in an awful situation. Most embarassing.
Try to bring up the subject in a subtle way: say how you might need a kind of mouth- washer(or this sort of thing) and tell him that to enjoy a good kiss you feel that BOTH of you need that thing.
Or else, after eating, try to convince him to take a mint sweet or smthing else-that is minty. I think it keeps off the bad smell a bit.

There could be various reasons why his breath smells, maybe he's not brushing his teeth regularly, he could have cavities in his teeth which he is ignoring or is not aware of or, he could have a digestion problem, stomach problems can affect your breath.
Honesty is the best policy. Bring up the dentist in conversation and ask him when last he had a checkup. Ask any of the above in conversation.
Always have some strong gum in your bag, make sure you take one and offer him one as soon as he picks you up.
Good luck.

Have him smoke a cigarette before. Somehow, cigarettes have a way to kill germs in the mouth. I'm a smoker and my girlfriend says I never have bad breath. I do brush but not as often as I should. Bad teeth can cause bad breath and so will a bad stomach but the cigarette will kill those germs. Maybe he's more of a cigar type guy but never the less, it will kill the germs.

I'm sooooo breath conscious. Maybe you should pretend to be self-conscious about yours so maybe he will take more note of his own. If he wants to kiss you say wait a minute let me get a piece of gum...and then offer him a piece. I hate kissing when a dudes breath is bad....u can't even enjoy it like u said.

Just tell him straight: "I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but your breath is pretty harsh right now. Would you like a mint?" It's honest, but at the same time tactful.
As for kissing, don't tell him what he's doing wrong, but tell him what you like. That's a positive way to reinforce his kissing technique.

Since you don't want a confrontation, pull out a pack of breath mints and offer one to him before you take one for yourself. That way, he's not offended and you don't have to deal with his bad breath. Best wishes! =]
