I love the way the christians will say "they're only names, get over it" but then they make a stink about atheists using the phrases "oh god" or "jesus christ"....... They are, after all, only names!

Excelent question although most of them will not understand the question.

Actually this is not AD it is CE. CE can refer to common era or as I and many others like to say the christian era

But you should not leave out the names of the months they are also named for ancient pagan gods. And then July is Casaer and August also. The under educated do not know these things or how much influence the pagan religions have had on their religion and customs. Like Chirstmas trees and bunny rabits at easter.

No, I call them by their ancient names thus making it clear to everyone what I'm talking about. No reverence involved.

Except Quakers who number days and months.

Oh, and Germans (and by implication a bunch of Lutherans) who don't refer to Odin in the name of the day between Dienstag and Donnerstag - they just call it Mittwoch.

Yes. Do I care if Friday is named after Freya? I'm not hurting anyone by using the logical name for Friday. I'm not invoking Odin by saying "Wednesday", I'm just using the commonly known name so as not to confuse.

What year is it? Do you call it by 2007 AD, thus giving reverence to Jesus Christ?

EDIT: Just like we have to call the days of the week by their names in order to function in society. Thank you for stating my (apparently) subtle point.

They think week has 7000 days actually. They consider it in god's time frame, which sounds awfully slow.
