If you were to fire a 45 acp out the back of a jet aircraft; what would happen to the bullet? The 45 acp projectile travels roughly 900 fps. If you fire it from a plane traveling at the same speed (900 fps), in the opposite direction, what will the projectile be doing?

The bullet will move at 900 fps from the barrel of the gun, regardless of which direction you're going. You can't change the laws of physics. However, shooting in a rearward direction, the bullet will appear to move faster, since you're combining the 900fps going rearward with the planes 500mph forward direction, but the bullet speed will remain the same. If you shoot the gun in a forward direction, the bullet will briefly gain velocity due to the planes forward momentum, but once again the laws of physics will take over as the bullet loses energy. This question is sort of like the argument of if you're in an elevator that was free falling, and jump up the moment before impact, would you not be injured because your moving in the opposite direction when impact happens. It just doen't work that way.

Calling in front of you positive and behind you negative, you the plane and the bullet are all moving 0 fps relative to each other but -900 fps relative to the ground. The bullet would move 900fps relative to you and the plane but 0 fps (900fps + -900fps = 0fps)relative to the ground. so it would appear (if you could see it) to fly away from you at 900 fps (which it did) but the bullet would just drop out of the sky. because it is moving 0 fps relative to the ground.

The bullet would continue at 900fps from the plane for a while, but according to someone on the ground, it would look like the bullet just popped out the back of the plane and started falling straight down to the ground.

Other than piercing through the plane from the inside to the outside and then eventually falling to earth > Nothing else<

... then both the bullet and the plane would fall to the ground, the bullet via gravity, the plane via the bullet...
