I have a BA and two MA from Ivy League institutions. I only deal with illegal immigrants in the service sector when they are serving me. I have a congenial relationship with those immigrants who work in my neighborhood because I have lived in Latin America and speak excellent Spanish. These immigrants have little hope of attaining the education needed to work at my place of employment.
Are all the anti-immigrant people afraid of immigrants taking their job in dire need of an education and leaving the service sector? America has great opportunities for the native born Americans. why aren't people taking advantage of it?

It's interesting to see the assumptions people have made about me personally.
I would like to add that higher education is available to everyone in this nation who wishes to receive it at whatever type of institution that they wish to.

So shouldn't we be working on equal access to K-12 and higher education for Americans?

Exactly my point! I've said this a few times already and got attacked too.
They're just afraid that their GED might not be good enough anymore.
Yet they blame everything on the "mexicans" -- or "hispanics" or "Latinos" as some call them.
It's very pathetic!

Probably for the same reason the some immigrants don't realize their potential or their excellent opportunity, laziness. However realize the biggest roadblock that quite a few immigrants have is the language barrier. How can you expect those immigrants to receive a higher education when they have usually a 5th grade English? Some cultures move into the United States which is self-described as "the melting pot of the world". However what's interesting is when my ancestors came here they had no choice but to learn English, either that or fail. Now adays there are cultures or people who refuse to integrate and it takes them generations on generations to even begin to have an English speaking generation. Now other languages are prevalent I can't call DMV without hitting 1 for English. The opportunity is and always has been there, it just takes work, dedication, and learning in order to accomplish that.

The major reason that everyone hates the amnesty is two reasons:
1. Language barrier between illegals and legal residents.
2. Social programs would be harmed by adding over 12 million people that no doubt will use if not all ready receiving government aid.
The most diverse free country in the world The United Arab Emirates has more people from all over the world building its cities up. There is no cry over this because:
1. They are guest workers that are going back to their host country someday
2. They are allowed to live and do business in certain zones and not all around.
3. They don't have a welfare state that grants benefits to everyone
4. Most foreigners speak English, especially the original Arab Emirate citizens. There are many languages spoken, but English and Arabic are the two primary ones.
If we were to get rid of social handouts and secure the border, then we could allow as many Mexicans, Central Americans, and other nationals in and grant instant citizenship as long as they pass a background check, speak English, and don't get into trouble for 6 months. There would not be too much worry about this issue, if we had a secure border and allowed everyone who meets the criteria. Language is the first barrier. Ever hear of a bunch of Canadians placing the Maple leaf flag at used car dealerships and demanding bilingual French education and other rights? No, then problem solved.

Not every person who wants to go to college gets to go. Not every person who went to college has a guarenteed life long success and job security in their field.
A country also needs people in the service industry to run. Not everyone can be rich and wealthy but as a citizen people should be able to live and work.
Since success and wealth isn't a guarenteed deal for all citizens of this country it is a threat to have such a huge influx of immigrants, legal and illegal, to compete for the limited job oppertunities. I'm sure you're panties would be in a serious bundle if they allowed massive intelligent, educated people all comming here for your job so your boss would have a more open field and cheaper labor to pick from and MILLIONS eager to do your job for less. Maybe you would think it was fine when you're lets say 50, and in order to keep your job you must learn to speak Chinese, take a pay cut and wake-up each day wondering if you'll have a job or not. Maybe you'd just take it in stride if a new group of immigrants told you you were stupid and you're education wasn't as good as theirs, you're years of experience amounted to nothing because they're better and smarter than you so just back out and move on. And your business and country tell you it's a "good thing".....
You might be sitting fine now......but it's no guarentee it will be 20 years from now.
Nobody sees something as a problem till it hits them directly. You're turn will come.....you're good paying job could be outsourced or have HB1 visas given to others who will do it for cheaper. So much cheaper you couldn't live your lifestyle or even half of it on what they'd pay.
Your kids might be denied college because they could have an influx of foreign students eager to pay more than even you could afford and your kid could be limited further while your tax dollars go to educating foreign students instead of our own. Better "global" investment you see.
You too could be easily replaced and disposable. But I'm sure you won't mind moving out of your beautiful home and taking your assigned spot sharing a cardboard with the rest of us since you had your brief stint of wealth and they "deserve" to take it now.

Then you should be educated enough to realize that Illegal, means ILLEGAL. Or are you so overly intelligent that that you have convinced yourself that you are now the smartest person on the planet, and you make the rules.
Why do the immigrants you speak of have little hope of ever gaining the education need to work at the same place as you?
Are you the only person who started life as a stupid, empty head, and filled it with knowledge over a lifetime? I doubt it.

Are you adding fuel to the fire of class warfare ? There is not a single job that Americans have not or are not doing. I am very happy that you have many degrees, and make your observations about the the lazy and uneducated American because you get served by illegals. For all your education you do not know the different between illegal immigration and legal immigration

What, mommy and daddy wouldn't pay for your doctorate, too? Snob.
While we are willing to accept anyone into this great country and give them a chance at the pursuit of happiness, we are a sovereign nation. There are still rules that must be followed. If you cram too many people into a pool, eventually people will start to drown. Sure, the little guys will go first, but you can't keep your nose in the air forever. Oh... that was a metaphor, in case you were too busy partying at your "Ivy League" school.

I am college educated and doing a job I love. I have no fear of any illegal alien . I deal with them daily in my profession. Perhaps you should stop jumping to conclusions and climb down off your self induced delusions and see the reality of the dangers to this nation from the uncontrolled flood of illegals aliens. I live and work in the real world of crimes committed by illegal aliens. You need an attitude adjustment as to your condescending tone towards those who have different /real views of the problem.
I for one am not impressed or intimidated by your air of superiority. I don't buy it ...

What do you mean by anti-immigrant? Who is anti-immigrant?
I'm against foreign nationals sneaking across our borders. It's against the law.
I am pro-immigrants who come to the US legally. The ones who learn English and become Americans are the ones who get ahead.

You might want to tell the kids that are living down the road in abject poverty while their single Mom works 2 jobs just to keep them fed, clothed and housed about how anyone in America can afford a higher education.
No, college grad- you might want to spend way more time out in the real world -
there are planty of Americans who will never be able to afford to send their children to college.
But I suppose -we are just supposed to let criminals enter this country and take what hope of gainfull employment our "under acheiving" Americans may have.
I guess college will never be a replacement for common sense.

That last detail is wrong. Higher education at a good university is prohibitively expensive for many who own a house, unless they sell it -- assuming their income is 'above the table' and trackable, for financial aid purposes. Plus, overt 'diversity' preferences put those illegally here in front of American children with the exact same grades and test scores.
However, how are our children to even get the education to get there when their schools are ruined by the sheer volume, poverty, lack of parental education and language barrier of those illegally coming to swamp their schools?
Look at test scores and frantic school construction plans in areas where illegals concentrate - such as LA. Look at the relationship of ESL learners to test scores. Look at the focus in education yearly changing more and more to focus on the 'poorest performing students' which in large part are those who are children of those illegally here, cutting programs for achievers.
Yeah, it is hurting opoortunity for our children, and their children are not more important than our own.
