I am looking for a loan on a new home and applied over the phone. The application taker made no mention of a credit card and did not ask if I would be interested in a credit card. I was approved for the loan, but still have not signed or agreed to anything. A couple days later a credit card for this company shows up. I actually had to call and close the account because it was in fact open and did show on my credit report. Is it legal for a company to do this without my consent or knowledge? If not where do I report them? I am pissed

Have you taken up the loan yet? If you have not then you might want to reconsider doing business with a company that does something like this. This company does not sound like they are too legit. Even if it is a big, nation-wide company, you may want to look elsewhere.

This sounds like a credit card that taps into your home equity. A big no-no. A home equity loan is something that should rarely be done and it should not be as easy to do as use a credit card.

Nope, not legal for them to do this. You must agree to any credit being opened in your name. I would contact the company and see what they will do for you first. You may be able to report them to the better business bureau.

It is never legal for a company to open credit for you without you knowing.
Call back this company and ask them why they did this,They probably recorded your conversation and can play it back for you,and tell them to remove this from your credit report.
Good luck
