Unfortunately today's engines are not built to last as long as the old ones did ( just like everything else these days). If the previous owner or owners kept up with oil changes and general maintenance of the engine, and didn't drive the heck out of it. You could be lucky enough to have it last you another 100,000 miles. Check out this site I found for you it's a place you ask the question of certified Hyundai mechanics and their answered ASAP...
Good Luck!

an engine over 100K miles could go another 100K without any problems or could need some work soon, if you are concerned you could have a shop do a compression test, though that will just tell you that the engine is in good condition today not in 50K miles. Your bigger concern is the transmission as engine's usually outlive a car's transmission. Please have a certified mechanic test drive and thoroughly inspect any used car prior to purchase, well worth $200 or whatever to know what he see's wrong needing repair. Most engine's may require new seals at some point, but really if well maintained the engine should go to 200K miles with only maybe $1000 in work if any. A transmission replacement will cost about $2200, so check for slippage and have the fluid drained to see if there are any metal particles in the fluid.

I'm on my third Hyundai with 68,000 on this one. The first, an '88 Excel the engine went at @ 130,000 miles. The second, a ;94 Excel I traded in at 140,000 miles . the seals were starting to go otherwise the car was in good shape. Draw your own conclusions

You can expect quite alot from Hyundai engines.
My 1997 RD1 Tiburon has clocked over 200,000kms (abt 180,000 miles??) and it's still going strong.

it the owner took care of it and had regular oil changes, then it should go alot more miles. we owned a 1988 excel gls that had over 200,000 miles on it (it was totaled by a red-light runner. we owned a 03 elantra gt that had almost 50,000 miles on it when we gave it to one of our daughters-it now has 120,000 miles. we currently own a 05 elantra gt with over 60,000 miles
