Cleaning is necessary but yeah, sometimes it gets frustrating. don't clean the days you don't feel like it. The world won't come to an end, believe me.
You can tell your kids to help you with the cleaning. That'll make them be a little tidier and appriciate the cleanness.

Girl - I am so with you it's not funny.
Sometimes I'm like 'could everyone JUST go naked for one day so that I don't have to do laundry today?'
I am NOT clean minded - but I prefer the house clean...can't stand the clutter.
So - I went looking, and found flylady.net. Please don't laugh - it's not a joke. It's kept me sane, and keeps me from suffering from C.H.A.O.S (can't have anyone over syndrome). You know, the 3 hour stuff and store and panic cleaning you do before your guests get there?
I have a morning routine that keeps my bathroom and bedroom pretty much all picked up. And an evening routine that keeps the kitchen/living room all picked up.
And a timer - GOD BLESS MY TIMER!. I can do ANYTHING for 15 minutes.
I spend probably 30/45 minutes a day on a 1500 square foot 3 bedroom/2 bath home with 3 adults (we have a room mate) and a 10 year old. And I'm 8.5 months pregnant. ;-) Plus one hour to do my 'home blessing' which is vacuuming/dusting, etc. You know, the weekly stuff.
Check it out - try it for a couple weeks - and you'll be SUPER suprised. It's 100% free!
They even have Riley's tasks - which are for kids to help with cleaning - nothing hard - just little things. And the kids LOVE it.

Actually I like to clean, my motivation is how good I feel afterward similar to going to the gym.
Just think of how great it'll feel when its nice and clean. And dont quit altogether!! Thats how ppl get pigsty situations! Its better to do something than nothing at all.

I love to clean and set things in order, it makes living so much more easy. I suggest you pare down you possessions (less to clean) and teach the kids to put things away after using them and always leave an area better than when they arrived. (If they don't put their things away, pick the stuff up..put it in a box...and not give it back for a week)

okay first off tell the kids that if they mess it up they are going to be the ones re cleaning it . I dont put up with kids telling me and acting like they are the ones that run the house . You have to show them who is in charge . As soon as u see them doing something bust on them . I guarantee your house will stay clean then.

I am stay at home mom, twin girls at home and another daughter and a son in elementary school. I have the same problem. I get everyone to help and we (the twins help everyone) have a room and each week we switch (not my and my hubby's bedroom/bathroom). Then we go outside or make a dessert together, or play board games together.

Yes!! Get the kids to help. Check out www.flylady.com Also, set your kitchen for 10-15 minutes and you and the kids see how much you can get done. You'll be amazed and they'll think they are playing a game.
