I'm bothered by how a lot of people especially Christians disregard the importance modesty. Is it because Christianity is so tolerant nowadays trying to fit in the modern generation?
I see Christians going to Churches covering themselves up and wearing conservative clothes. Why? They say it's because their in the Church. They say it's to respect the house of god. They say it's to respect others who are in Church. They say it's to avoid impliying sexual tensions while praying to god. they say it's because their communicating with god. Sadly, when these kind of people are out of Church to the public, some strip their clothes and lose modesty attracting malicious attentions(SIN) and lust(SIN) just by simply showing the cleavage or wearing mini skirts.
If so, why should modesty be applied only fo reasons being in Church surrounded by fellow Christian believers. We should respect ourselves and others.God orders us to be humble, simple and not abusive of human bodies.

Virgin Mary is the role model for many Christian women. Her clothing is truly simple, conservative, modest just like the clothing of many Muslim women who until now, preserve the importance of modest clothing. Christian nuns also are being conservative and modest in clothing too. They don't wear those long garments and cover their hairs for no purpose. It's truly admirable and I really commend it.

I wear shorts and a tank top to church and on the outside so I can't relate to what you are speaking of. I don't show my body off but I don't cover it up either.

well... not all Christians are like that. Compared to the old days, several Christians are being tolerant to modern temptations which they don't even recognize as sin! These make come in forms as listening and rocking hard with offensive music making it worse by subduing to it and losing self-control / going to bars that offer loud music, a lot of bottles and glasses of toxic drinks like beer and wine, indecent dances, sexual contacts / and more. What is evident now is the way of clothing, just like what you've said.
Jesus preaches modestly and self-respect. Lust is considered a grave sin. As humans, it is our nature to be suscptible on sexual tensions rising to lust. Therefore, it's our duty to be modest for we not only respect ourselves but we respect the other people whom we encounter!

Sadder still is that there are Christians who actually dress immodestly IN church as well. In church I have seen bare midriffs, tight clothing and low necklines.
Modesty should be a way of life. You don't have to wear long pants and turtle necks to be modest. But use discretion and good judgment. Honestly it's not that hard to be modest.

Vanity, vanity, all is vanity: Proverbs. I say this concerning your statement and question, women have taken the pencil out of God's hand, apparently some Christians think God is not perfect because they have to help him everyday with make-up etc. etc. They don't like the way they look. You are right, they are hypocrites in Church, but God knows what they are doing. He who has nothing to hide hides nothing.

I hate to admit this but you have a point. Sad but true... :(
*****When Adam and Eve were still sinless, they freely walked naked without impure thoughts. As soon as they ate the apple and were opened to the goodness and evils of the world, they covered their bodies conservativeley for it was immoral and indecent. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL MODESTY. No matter how "sexy" our generation progresses ( EX: before women swan wearing their whole clothes, then they wore one pice swimsuits, then they had 2 piece bikinis...what's next?), the definition of modesty never changes!

do no longer ignore that numerous human beings, like maximum individuals of united statesa., is Christian, that doesn't advise that they are observant or perhaps save on with that faith heavily aside from a provider or mass on Christmas or Easter. So, yeah, i assume you are going to be able to desire to declare that, although this is variety of greater complicated than that.

Bah, this is just more subjugation of women.
Men aren't held to any standards, but women are, because religious men view women as vile temptresses.
Do you realize that this sort of belief is what leads to blaming victims in rape and sexual assault cases? I know that sounds like a slipperly slope argument, but it has already happened!
The problem is the objectification of women, whether in ultraconservative clothes or modern clothes. Women should not have to be afraid to wear whatever we want. *Men* need to learn control if they think it's so important.

I can tell this is a male's perspective. notice how it's all about the modesty of woman...no mention of men with no shirts on walking down the street etc...
How about you wear what you feel comfortable wearing, and other's will do the same. If you are feeling tempted by seeing some woman's flesh, then perhaps you can stay indoors. Shop online, stuff like that :)

we are all sinners and hypocrits in one way or another. God cares more about what is in the heart than what we wear. it is not good for young people to dress imodistly but you will never convince them. we all learn from out mistakes. adam and eve were naked in the garden at first God knows our intent.
