have you ever heard the grandfather theory for time travel? well let's say you killed your grandfather the nhe never would have had your dad and your dad never would have had you which would mean that you wouldn't have been born but if you weren't born then he'd be alive meaning you'd be alive meaning he'd be dead meaning you be dead

It depends upon what author and science fiction book you are reading. Some say that if you go back in time at all, you create a branch universe where anything at all can happen, but when you go forward to your time, you are going to the timeline where you never went back in time, so nothing will have changed.
There are others like Robert Silverburg who wallow in the complications that could ensue. His book Up the Line is guaranteed to go far beyond this basic mind-twister and into territory that even the writers for Star Trek the Next Generation never had the guts to write those "Temporal Anomoly" episodes.

Right on Wally M. My sentiments exactly. Watch Back to the Future 2. It explains the tangents or "alternate universes" that would be created if time travel were possible. However, we've still gotta wait for Doc to invent the flux capacitor, which is what makes time travel possible.

You could not have killed your grandfather if you were not alive
If you are alive, then everything instantly becomes history, your dad would already have been born, and you would already be born.
