That's a whole other issue. We must focus on baby steps. They still don't get the difference between "in the name of God" and "by the hand of God".
It's not just a word. We all must have a clear understanding of exactly what someone means when they say a word. This is to enable worthwhile communication. Until then, we are stuck arguing semantics. It's sort of a foolish thing to do.

Whether a person is a "real" Christian or not is something between them and God. There are those like Fred Phelps that I seriously have my doubts about because of his hateful behavior. I can certainly say that Phelps is not Christ-like.
But that accusation is like saying someone isn't nice or isn't smart. It's a value judgment. If I receive such a comment, I'm curious as to why someone would say so, and if they have valid points, I would consider them. I'd be a fool not to take as objective a consideration as I can of their criticism - even if it's not offered very nicely. But my relationship with God is not dependent on what other people think of it.
Some days I'm rather glad of that. ;o)

Telling someone that they are not a Christian doesn't necessarily mean that is true. If that person has acknowledge that Jesus came down to Earth in a form of a man, has die on the cross for their sins, and risen out of the grave & has gone back to Heaven, that is what makes a person a Christian. It has nothing to do with other people making claims--of that person is a Christian...or that person is not a Christian. The only thing that is required to be a Christian is a person has to accept Christ into their heart, acknowledge that they are sinner, and ask God to forgive them. You take on His name (title)...Jesus Christ. Christ is not His last name. Christ just means, "Messiah, Savior". See--> Christ...Christian.

5 years ago I might be called a fake but I really doubt you would say I wasn't a real Christian now. I pray that my example is positive for others. If I am not seen as a genuine christian I need to make things right.

I never say that about someone.
How could I judge and justify what is going on in someone's spirit? To say some someone isn't a Christian, is taking the cross away from that person's life.
I am not about to start overrunning the work of Christ with my small mindedness...
I have done some reflection on these judgemental statements that I see on here, about whether we as Christians esp. should be saying such things. I have concluded that it is lack of faith on our part, more than someone else not being a Christian...
when we start with "not a real Christian" your saying Jesus' sacrifice wasn't strong enough for that person wherever their walk started.....

No. I know I am a real Christian. I know I need Jesus for my salvation. His followers are not perfect people, but what is a good thing in His business that He does not call only qualified, He qualifies the called.
Christianity is not about our perfection, it is a relationship with perfect God. If you ever talk to Him, if you never worship Him, if you never read His Word...and you still call yourself a Christian you are missing out a relationship with the Lord.

Well, I guess we do deserve to be called on the carpet at times. I am even guilty of making blanket statements when I see behavior that I find frustrating and that I believe is hurtful to God. But at the end of the day, not only is it not my place to questions anothers salvation, it's also a sin.
All Christians are going to mess up. Even the ones who are really trying to know the heart of God. And there are people who will do evil in God's name...and I have my human beliefs about those people.
But in the end, it's all up to God and not for us to say. I can assume someone is not a "real christian" all I want to. But that does not make it true. Only God knows what is in man's heart. And there is always the mass muderer who calls for Jesus while on deathrow. We may not like it or view it fair, but it's not our law, it's God's law, and while that mass murderer may still have to pay for his crimes on earth, if he is saved and turns himself around, he will still go to heaven.
I always find it sad that Christianity is judged so harshly by the behavior of Christians. The point behind being human is that we are imperfect sinners. We are gonna mess up more than we are gonna get it right. If your going to look to someone for an example, please look to Jesus. The rest of us will fail and dissapoint you.

IT IS a common thing today to see people who profess to believe the tenets of a religion, but who fail to follow these teachings in their everyday life. Often people consider religion as something to which to “belong,” but not as something to influence their actions in homelife, in business, in dealing with others. However, true Christianity is not a matter of outward appearance. In fact, in Christianity’s early days it was called “The Way,” because it was more than formal worship. (Acts 19:9, 23) It was a WAY OF LIFE permeated by the worship of God, guided by his spirit. Throughout the Christian Scriptures we find strong expressions that allow for no halfhearted service to God. The person wishing to be a real Christian is told: ‘Make your mind over,’ “be made new in the force actuating your mind” and “put on the new personality.” (Rom. 12:2; Eph. 4:22-24) Along with zealous witnessing, good conduct is continually emphasized.

Not a chance. What you or someone else says about my christianity is meaningless. I know where I stand with God and no human can take that away. If someone said that to me it would be a lie and therefore not the truth.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me".

My grand-dad had a good saying that just about covers the subject: "Just because someone calls me a jacka$$ doesn't mean that I'm obligated to run right out and buy a saddle."
Whether someone is a "real" Christian or not is strictly between them and God. It's not my call to make.
