My wife was involved in an accident a few weeks ago and the car has been written off. I have been paid the amount agreed with the insurance company but as the vehicle has a personalised registration I would like to know if it is possible to sell it.I still have the car at my premises and have been made an offer . The plate has no connections with myself or wife as I bought the car with the plate on it.

The plate is yours to do with as you please - you will need to de-register it from the current vehicle - contact dvla for info

The registration has to go with a currently registered vehicle. If your's has been scrapped the number might be available from DVLA in a few months.

Provided that the car has a current MOT then you can retain it by contacting the DVLA and doing the relevant paperwork. No current MOT and you will have a lot of grief though.

I am not sure what you are asking here, but I think this might be illegal once it is written off I think that you have to get a rebuilt title or something like that?
