Im not an athiest but I still have a few guesses.
1. Most of it isnt logical
2. Maybe it isnt the views but just how pushy christians are on the street trying to save the world and so thats why athiests' main focus is the christians because most of the religions aremnt logical but you dont see them stopping people on the street asking if they know Jesus or some other prophet.
Not to mention Christians are a bit hostel towards non-christians, resorting to scare tactics in their desperate attempt to lure more people to convert. I am a former christian, so dont say it isnt true that Christians highly look down upon non-christians, they do.

It is when the Christians try to force me to adhere to those views that I get hostile. It is when Christians blatantly lie and scream "persecution" because they are not allowed to force me to be a "christian American" that I get hostile. When Christians come on here and blatantly lie about science, knowing nothing of it other than their pastor tells them it is wrong.Spreading lies,"evolution says the big bang came from monkeys"(OK,that was dramatized a bit,but they come trying to tell me they don't believe in something that no serious atheist ever said they did. Choosing to just define science to their own needs, rather than taking the time to actually know WHAT it is that they don't believe in. That is ridiculous. Maybe I wouldn't be so hostile if they didn't lie so much. Oh,and the comments about how I can leave THEIR christian nation, again, a lie.No longer excusable by ignorance,as it has been corrected repeatedly. Willful, knowing liars make me hostile, sorry

There's no room at the inn.
And the fact that some Christians will e-mail me to tell me how rude that joke was is part of the problem. It's not rude, it's just a bad pun. It's not persecution, it's just a bit of levity.
What you're seeing from the atheists here isn't hostility either. It's frustration.
You don't like being told what you think and why you act like you do. We don't like it either.

Hi, Nichollette.
I think atheists get hostile because of the things that many Christians say about them. Jerry Falwell blamed them for 9/11. There is this huge myth going around that atheists have no morals. They are blamed for the decline of western civilization just because they don't want your prayers taught to their children. They are the scapegoat whenever something bad happens. You'd be a bit hostile, too!

Hello there! Atheist here. I am gentle and kind. I am not hostile towards christians nor any other religious people. I would like, however, to improve your view of reality by showing you that having "faith" in something like a religious explanation of how the world came to be as it is, is merely taking leave of your senses and your ability to think logically and use your reasoning. If you will acknowledge this plain fact and then actually use your mental faculties you will see that evolution is a simple fact of nature and that we are a mere spec of life in a vast universe. Hopefully you will also see that to investigate, gather knowledge and theorize about the natural world is our best hope of improving our lives in this universe. I do hope you are all well and have a cheerful day.

Call it counterattacking for years and years and years *a couple hundred at the very least* of christians telling us that we are going to hell and various violence in the name of your god. Yet your god doesn't strike you down for using his name in vain. And if using God's name for violence isn't in vain, then i don't know what is.
Its also the bigotry of SOME followers towards various people at certain times in history.
And don't forget trying to push creationism and the thinly veiled creationsim called Intelligent Design into science class......where it doesn't belong. I have no problem with having a class about this, just so long as it's its own class and can be taken as an elective.
But no, you gotta have it in science class. Even though there is nothing scientific about the entire thing.
So yeah, that's just a few reasons.

Actually "glitterkittyy's" answer was kinda funny because the atheists are trying to force their beliefs into the schools, government, and law as well...I'm not sure why atheists are hostile towards our views...maybe they don't want to be accountable for what they did in their life so they pretend there is no God?? so anytime we Christians bring up God they get mad because we brought up just what they were trying to block out of their lives...

I don't have any more hostility towards Christians than I do towards those who believe in Santa Claus. My only issue is that you keep your beliefs out of government. Theocracies have a long and ugly history.
"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot; abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." -- Thomas Jefferson

Ignore the ignorant responses you'll get. There just scared of the truth. They don't know any better and they have nothing better to do.All you can do is pray for them, remember god loves them as much as us Christians, and remember not one person is any better than the other, some of us accept god and some of us don't and in the end we ALL WILL bow down on our knees before him.

I am not sure, but Christians are not totally innocent when it comes to being hostile towards other views and religions either.
I think it is important that we all accept that every one on Earth has different beliefs and nothing you can do or say will change that fact. I believe God is accepting of this fact, and so we should learn to accept it too.
