Treatment
The treatment of constipation involves four basic steps:
Restore fluid balance.
Remove or alleviate any underlying causes.
Administer laxatives or cathartics.
Give enemas.
Supplement the cat's diet with bran, metamucil, or a similar bulk-forming material. However, there are some cats that do not improve, or even get worse after fiber content is increased.
Add laxatives as needed.
Groom the cat regularly to remove dead hair from the coat.
Keep the cat's litter box extremely clean to promote regular defecation.
Do not change litter box brands abruptly.
Remove covers from the litter box to prevent odor.

I have a maine coon female, and she too would get constipated from all of her hair consumption. I now make sure that she gets a little bit of bacon fat once a week. This helps to keep her stools softer, and she is able to go more regularly. It also seems to give her coat a nice soft feel and shine to it.
It probably wouldn't hurt to give your cat moist food once in a while either.
My girlfriend gives her cat butter (on the end of her finger) once a week, and this seems to help her cat as well.
Good luck with your feline.

Try going to your local pet store and get the "hair ball" remedy that comes in a toothpaste like tube. It should have the same effect. I now only give it to my long haired cat once a week (he licks it right off the tube) and no problems anymore!

Usually, that's too long for me. I believe it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other folks can't.

My cat has the same problem. I went to a health food store and bought BRAN. I sprinkle it in my cats food at every meal. It's really cheap (big bag for $2) and it lasts forever. This has helped my cat and its cheap. I hope u will try it. Good Luck!

I'd try olive oil. Maybe a bit of cow's milk---that always gave my cats the runs.
Try the olive oil first. We gave that to our dog when he got backed up and it worked for him...I'd think it would work on a cat.
Good luck

Try Laxatone or similar hairball product (it's a flavored lubricant). Also you might want to consider buying him cat food that is formulated for hairballs.
