does anyone know a link where i can download a disk image for Unix that works properly in VMwares VM.

Check out the Sun website and pickup their Solaris UNIX operating system. You'll need the Solaris x86 version as VMware doesn't support the SPARC version (or any RISC based UNIX versions from what I can tell).

Solaris 10 can be downloaded at the second link below.

I'm pretty sure that any form of Linux can become a virtual machine inside of another computer. There is something called GRUB (GReat Universal Booter) that automatically lets you put Linux on a separate parition on your HD. Good luck!

i dunno if you want just base unix or linux.. but you can get ubuntu of their site, you may also be able to fine red hat and other of the sort on torrent sites

get ubuntu - its free and in ISO format to work in VMWare.
