This could be a pulled muscle. Muscle pain can be very intense. It could be that you pulled the muscle in the inner costal muscles of the rib cage. You need to see your medical doctor to find out exactly what is the problem.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day

I would suggest consulting with an acupunctrurist. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are the most effective modalities for treating pain and related conditions. You can find a local practitioner by going to the NCCAOM website - http://www.nccaom.org/find.htm

This is the agency which certifies acupuncture and Chinese medicine practioners in the US. Go to the bottom of the page to access the list of practitoners state by state.
