My boyfriend and I have at least 3-4 black tie weddings that we currently know of that we will be going to in the next 2 years, plus there may be a black tie Bar Mitzvah as well. Ther first wedding is in September. We plan to get married by 2009. Would it be financially better for him to buy a tux now or wait until our wedding is closer?

Also what is the average starting price for a tuxedo?

When we rented the tuxes from After Hours, the guy told us that if you rent the same tux 3 times you have more than bought the tux. So if it is likely that you will use the same tux for more than 2 weddings/events, than go ahead and buy it.

We are friends with the same people since high school and as its a small group, the groomsmen are nearly preset. We couldn't afford it at the time we got married, however, but we are the first in the group to get married. I know at the next wedding my husband will be buying that tux.

Renting the vests/ties whatever is very cheap. Roughly $25. So don't worry about that.

I'd say on average a tux goes from $300-700. Pants, jacket, shirt, cufflinks. You can look around though--frequently you can find good sales.

I purchased a tuxedo for about $200 at Syms, you then need the shirt, cufflinks and buttons. Decide whether you just want a tie, bowtie, vest, or whatever.

A tuxedo will cost similar to a suit, plus the extras. Also there may need to be alterations. The extras and alteration can exceed $100. A tuxedo shirt comes in different style and in generally more expensive than a normal suit shirt.

Buying your own will look better than a rented tux, I did it for my own wedding. Wore it with a simple black tie, and nice cufflinks and button jewlery (not sure what the term is called).

My fiance and I recently priced a couple of tuxedos to purchase - from Sarno & Co. They were about $525 to buy. I'm sure you could get one for less, or for much more, but this seems to be average.

I think it would be best to purchase one. It usually costs more to rent. I believe the guys in my wedding paid around $90 for the tux, shoes and vest.

Tuxes are a lot like suits, you can spend $200 or you can spend $2,000. Keep in mind he will need a shirt, tie, vest or cummerbund, cuff links, shoes etc.

It costs roughly $100 to rent one today, but that will include all the accessories..

I have never purchased a tux but if you need one for that many occasions you should look into purchasing one. They normally rent for around 50.00.-75.00
