Well I imagine there are tons of herbal remedies for irritable bowel syndrome, there are for everything else. If the symptoms (which you have failed to mention) persist he should go back to the doctor, not just because of IBS, but to rule out more serious conditions. If the GP thinks it's justified, he or she will send your partner to us where we can have a good rummage around for him. Buscopan is a smooth muscle relaxant, so in theory it would be helpful, not sure if it's needed on prescription though. Dietary changes, destress are all top tips but he does need to make sure it's nothing more (don't worry, just double check). Has he been diagnosed with IBS?

Encourage your partner to make a food diary. Write down everything he eats and see if there is any common denominator. Also include any alcohol as some beers and wines can cause problems.
I am surprised his doctor is not taking this more seriously, tests should be done to rule out the possibility of anything more serious.
Don't want to frighten you but if he's felt bad enough to visit several times then he should be listened to.
Maybe he should ask for a second opinion or change his doctor.

Yes stress does make it worse. My husband has been living like this for years, with no help from the doctor. he finally got sent to the hospital for tests and after years of pain, it wasn't IBS, but Crohns disease. And he has finally got the medication he needs, for the rest of his life, or until there are changes. Try to get him to the hospital for tests, it took us long enough, he will need medication. Good Luck.

I certainly have had it for bout 10 years. It sucks! in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, I certainly have found out that it comes and is going in hardcore classes, and then 'is going away' for months at a time. The flareups are undesirable!! attempt Flax, the two the seeds on my own of flax bread etc. Flax helps plenty. additionally on the subject of medicine (dont comprehend the place you reside) yet as approximately Pantaloc (pant-a-lock). it incredibly is phenomenal and calms the cramping/discomfort by utilising approximately 80%. you're taking one on an generic basis in spite of wheter there is discomfort or no longer. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, in case you're pregnant or nursing, it incredibly is incredibly not a great medicine. Your wellbeing practitioner is an a$* btw...pepto will do no longer something simply by fact the discomfort is on your decrease colon and could be long long previous by utilising the time it incredibly is meant to "attain" that section. Have they finished extra attempt to verify that it is not Crohn's? the indicators are VERY comparable throughout a flareup and if no longer something yet breads etc are staying positioned, i could be stressful that they do a sigmoidoscopy or a barium enema (the two are undesirable, yet shy of a finished colonoscopy the only thank you to verify.). I certainly have had a lot of those attempt's (two times) simply by fact they have been confident it replaced into Crohn's. It replaced into IBS. the worst section isn't something will stay 'in' for what sounds like ever, and then day after as we communicate no longer something will pass 'out'. nasty cycle. Up your fiber intake plenty for awhile, I certainly have discovered fulfillment with that still. Raisins, entire grain brown rice, entire wheat pasta (no longer enriched white, entire wheat or multigrain), flax seeds with in simple terms slightly cinnamon for a snack. sidestep cheeses, white something, and many salt! optimistically interior a week you may start up getting returned to customary, yet shop the fiber up for slightly just to make confident the discomfort doesnt come precise returned!

Soluble fiber is the single greatest dietary aid for preventing Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms in the first place, as well as relieving them once they occur. Here's the kicker. Soluble fiber is NOT typically found in foods most people think of as "fiber," such as bran or raw leafy green vegetables. Soluble fiber is actually found in foods commonly thought of as "starches", though soluble fiber itself differs from starch as the chemical bonds that join its individual sugar units cannot be digested by enzymes in the human GI tract. In other words, soluble fiber has no calories because it passes through the body intact.
As a general rule, the grain and cereal foods at the top of this list make the safest, easiest, and most versatile soluble fiber foundations for your meals and snacks.[1]
Rice
Pasta and noodles
Oatmeal
Barley
Fresh white breads such as French or sourdough (NOT whole wheat or whole grain)*
Rice cereals
Flour tortillas
Soy
Quinoa
Corn meal
Potatoes
Carrots
Yams
Sweet potatoes
Turnips
Rutabagas
Parsnips
Beets
Squash and pumpkins
Mushrooms
Chestnuts
Avocados (though they do have some fat)
Bananas
Applesauce
Mangoes
Papayas (also digestive aids that relieve gas and indigestion)
*Please choose a baked-daily, high quality, preservative-free brand. White bread does not mean Wonder.
Why is soluble fiber so special? Because unlike any other food category, it soothes and regulates the digestive tract, stabilizes the intestinal contractions resulting from the gastrocolic reflex, and normalizes bowel function from either extreme. That's right – soluble fiber prevents and relieves BOTH diarrhea and constipation. Nothing else in the world will do this for you.
How is this possible? The "soluble" in soluble fiber means that it dissolves in water (though it is not digested). This allows it to absorb excess liquid in the colon, preventing diarrhea by forming a thick gel and adding a great deal of bulk as it passes intact through the gut. This gel (as opposed to a watery liquid) also keeps the GI muscles stretched gently around a full colon, giving those muscles something to easily "grip" during peristaltic contractions, thus preventing the rapid transit time and explosive bowel movements of diarrhea as well.
Doing this has solved my IBS problem. I've enclosed a link to a website that will give you complete information on how to resolve this problem.

I suffer from IBS and my doctor has prescribed Colofac - mebeverine hydrochloride.
This does seem to help so your partner should ask the doctor for a prescription
