I'll dedicate my yoga practice to emptying your basement and if all else fails get yourself a pina colada and a pool raft and pretend your in a cave in the bahamas.
Are your basement walls well sealed? If you've got a sump pump and no problems with it, it could be that you need a good coat of water sealer on your basement walls. It helped with an old house I used to own.

Nearly any hetero-sexual woman will be familiar with that situation. 8 inches at the sports bar turns into 5 inches by the time it gets to the bedroom.
