I usually go the gym first thing in the morning. I've been going on an empty stomach. I bring my water bottle & drink the whole time. I have heard conflicting information on what is best to do, eat something before a work out or not? I want to get the best out of my work out so what do I do? And if I am supposed to eat, what should I eat & how much? Thanks!

I actually ate a little bit before I worked out today & I did have more energy & I didn't feel like I was going to die! LOL! So I guess it would be better for me to eat a something small before hand. Thanks!

You'll hear conflicting information here, too. :) I've heard that you don't really need to eat first thing in the morning and it boosts your metabolism. You're supposed to do what feels right for you. If you want to it, make sure you give yourself enough time (at least half an hour) before hitting up the gym. I'd suggest maybe something like a granola bar?

If you do eat something before, eat something light. Then eat the rest of your breakfast after your workout. It can be difficult to get motivated and have enough energy to workout on an empty stomach, but you don't want to overeat or you'll see that food again halfway through your routine.

It's best to do what you feel up to. If you can hold down your breakfast, or you have at least 30 minutes after eating to workout, then eat before. If you can't go without a little something on your stomach, just have a light snack. Otherwise, it's probably best to not eat until after your workout, just so you don't make yourself sick.

Traditionally, you should not eat before you work out. Stomach crunches and jogging with a full stomach will create a lot of gas which will cause pain when working out. Eating a lot of carbs the day before a workout is a good idea. Carbs (like in spaghetti) will give you lots of energy for the workout when eaten the previous day. Something light just after a workout is great and sipping on Gatorade during working out is good, too.

A combination of healthy carbs and protien such as a whole wheat bagel with cream cheese, about an hour before, gives me the energy I need to get the most out of my workout. When I don't eat first, my workout is more difficult.

you're inhibiting your workout if you don't have any calories to burn. and if you're trying to lose weight, you need to start your metabolism right when you wake up. the problem with eating before hand is that after 5 minutes on the treadmill, you'll wanna spew. so keep it light. you need protein and carbs for the energy. it will maximize your results. try a bagel and a small portion of your favorite breakfast meat.. another day, a banana and a scrambled egg. a cereal bar and orange juice. and keep chugging that water.

they say to eat somthing small packed with protien and small amount of carbs to keep you going through your workout...if you eat to much then your blood goes to your stomach digest taking it away from where you need it the most during a workout which is your heart and muscles....so eat a granola bar or a protien bar and some water...or a piece of fruit....then after your workout you can eat a sensable breakfast.

Normally, food comes after sports, most especially early in the morning. And even after exercise, you eat not too immediately. I was also told that.
