I have a 2 yr old and 5 yr old (boys). I'd like to take better advantage of the time I have on the weekends with them. Since I work full time it seems like during the week I have to be the maid and cook more than mom during the evenings. Anyways, I want to plan a summer fun calander with fun events for the weekends. What are some ideas? I'd like to keep cost low so things we can do at home are best.

First Saturday of each month Home Depot has a craft session. Kids get to build simple wood crafts, earn a metal "pin" for each one they complete. They give each child a nice carpenter apron to keep. No appointment necessary.

The suggestions you received about the parks are perfect. State and local parks are incredibly affordable or free. Outdoors, fresh air, they will be active and have memories of it for a long time.

Have a "car wash" for their bikes. Dress them in swim trunks, give them soap and sponges and buckets of water. Give them the garden hose and join in. Wash their bikes and then have a water fight.

Yard work day - have them help with cleaning up of the yard, gardening, mowing or raking, then in the afternoon play frisbee or football or badminton on the lawn. Grill hamburgers or hot dogs. They will enjoy the family time and a little hard work never hurt anyone.

Kids love to go out for walks. Pick a day of the week to be the mystery walk. Purchase some cheap things with big kid impact like magnifying lenses, chalk, bottles of bubbles, a whistle, etc. Put one in a pillowcase to bring along. You can even throw things in you already might have, like your measuring tape, a piece of rope, a ball from a quarter machine, whatever. After a while of walking together and talking, you get to make a big production of pulling out one thing in the mystery bag. It adds really magical memory to something simple.

I bought a book by the AA that lists free places to take your kids.I got at at a service station.Look for free leaflets when you're out and about that advertise theme parks for kids.I take my kids to museums, swimming, cycling, walking, on picnics, around castles. The list is endless, and it costs us hardly a thing. We always have a great time.

We have a pamphlet of our area events for the summer. Call your township office and see if they have the same. Then set up a calender of activities from that. Take advantage of your zoos and museums as well as parks, beaches and splashpads. :)

We have family night every Saturday. We make dinner (they help), we play a board game, and rent a movie they've been wanting to see. We all snuggle up on the couch, eat junk food, and hang out.

It's my most favorite night of the week.

one saturday, take them to a park with a picnic lunch and then throw a frisbee, read, relax, or play tag. You could also look up different variations of tag. Little kids always get into games like this, and they'll be getting great exercise.
