Several months ago I got a high pitched "ringing" in my ears. It went away after a few days. Yesterday, the ringing started again in one ear. It doesn't hurt, annoying when I focus on it. Is there any home remedy? I've never had ear or allergy problems.

Ringing in the ears - tinnitus, has lots of causes including industrial accidents, head trauma, exposure to loud noises, infection, and many others. Some causes are unknown. If you know why you have tinnitus, the first obvious thing to do is remove the cause if possible. This will not stop the tinnitus you have, but may stop it getting worse.

There is no known cure that works for everyone. However, there are some herbal remedies that work for some people.

The three main herbs that are useful for treating tinnitus are:
- Black cohosh (most commonly used for treating menopause, but very good for tinnitus in some people)
- Golden seal
- Ginkgo biloba

Many people with tinnitus are salicylate sensitive and need to adopt a diet that eliminates foods with salicylates in it. Also can't take aspirin, or any other drugs with salicylates.

Background noise can help reduce the effects of tinnitus. Some people need to sleep with a radio going so that they are less aware of the ringing in their ears.

I hope this helps and wish yo luck in your search.

This is called tinnitus, and is pretty much un-explained. There aren't really any home remedies, but you could try listeining to something to block out the sound.

Most tinnitus patients with persistent tinnitus have a hearing-aide type instrument that blocks out the frequency so you don't hear it. Our ears constantly produce this noise, but some of us have more accute hearing than others. Dogs hear this ringing ALL the time.

Other treatemtns involve natural therapies, such as acupuncture or aromatherapy, I don't know the scientific basis of these, but if they work, they work.

Good luck with it!

I developed this when I was sixteen. I ended up going to the ER, and they gave me an antihistime. It didn't help, and every year since my doctor told me that there wasn't anything he could do. The fluid is blocked in my ears, and it's not infected, so no medicine will help.

I would definitely make a doctor's appt, to make sure the if you have fluid causing the problem, that it's not infected.

I starred this question, hoping that I'll be able to find some relief as well, after the years of suffering from it.

Sounds like the beginning of Tinnitus to me. People that have listened to loud noise for long periods of time (Rock band members and loud music lovers get it (I got mine in the military) Some things bring it on but only you can tell what it may be. Mine gets worse when i drink large amounts of caffeine. Carbonated beverages also bring it on strong. So does any amount of alcohol. Stress or a very stressful event that has taken place in your life recently can also make it surface. You should have a hearing test. Start being VERY careful and ANY amount of loud noise! I had the same symptoms that you are having but I went right ahead with my normal routine anyway and now instead of having it once in awhile, I have it ALL the time, some times it's louder than other times but it NEVER goes away fully now, so BE CAREFUL and protect your hearing from LOUD NOISES\!!!!!

That ringing is called tenitus and is caused by sounds being too loud, if that sound changes or becomes louder, you might think about cleaning the ears out. That is one of two indications I have about wax or other garbage in the ear canal.

it sounds like tinnitis. go see a dr about it a get your blood pressure checked and run some tests. it could also be an infection. let the dr rule it out for you. there isn't a cure for tinnitis but you can seek help from and ent doctor or also a naturopath seeming it is at it's early stage. fingers cross that it all goes away because so many things can trigger ear problems like some medications. please do seek medical information from your gp as soon as possible.

I would have it looked at, but if it is tinnitus, there is no cure for it. I have had it for the last 15 to 20 years. I got it from loud music. The best thing is not to listen to loud music and not be around loud devices (grinders, table saws) without hearing protection. Hopefully you will have something that is only temporary. Good luck.
