Dear Brother we have an unmatchable legacy of scholarship which can be traced back to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). So it is not a matter of individual opinions. The Qur'an has been explained in multi volume boks by various scholars who gathered their info from the early generataions who were the most devous followers of the Prophet (PBUH).

A better tranlslation of this verse is- "O you who believe, if there comes to you a rebellious person with information, investigate it and verify its validity lest you harm someone out of ignorance and regret it." (Saheeh International)

According to those who explained the Qur'an, it means that we should all be careful about taking information from anyone. Unless the person who is telling you is telling you first hand info and not I heard this or that. The person telling you should be someone YOU know to by honest, trustworthy, and generally pious. If they are telling he said she said or this personal isn't a devout follower of Islam then you should be skeptical until you have verified the information from a more reliable source. Otherwise you may find that you have believed in or spread false info and on the day of judgment you will be regretful for doing such a thing. So out of God's abundunt Mercy He has blessed us with his noble upright guidance which leads to all goodness and righteousness.

And Allah knows best.

This is what I would think it means,
God in this verse is telling us that if an evil person comes with a news, we should verify it, or we may harm someone else by telling him/her the news (which is false). We may afterward regret what we have done if such an event occurs.

So to comment on it, I would say God is warning us of "evil-livers among us" who may stir us to the path of ignorance, and if we are not careful about knowing what the "evil-liver" tells us and tell that false information to someone else, that person will be affected(in a bad way perhaps), and so we may later regret it when truth becomes apparent to us.
Personally I like the verse, and I found too many things that go alongside it ( like living examples going on in my life)
Well that's all, peace
Brother Arash

It doesn't need much 'interpretation'. It is a pretty clear verse.
When a person who is known to be wicked comes to you with news you should not immediately believe it. You must verify the information first. If you don't verify it, spread the news and it turns out to be false you may have harmed many other ppl in the spreading of a lie.

The chapter is speaking about Musa(PBUH) and Allah(swt) gave Musa(PBUH) a guide(Torah). Earlier in the Quran the Jews are said to be in doubt and will say that their hearts did not know Allah(SWT). Also, leaders where made from the children of Israel when they used to believe the Ayat(proofs). They will be judged because they have differed.

It means if someone brings you news & that person is not trusted (not a true believer), then verify what he/she said & make sure it is true before taking any action, so you would not do something wrong and then relaize it's wrong & ask for forgiveness.

This is saying you should know that everything you hear is not true. That if you follow it blindly later you will regret. Allah(swt) is all-knowing and all-wise..
