Please do not misunderstand my question. I'm not implying that all Atheists are gay. They're not.

But my point is, the average straight Catholic (for instance) won't question his religion. He's very happy in it. It does not oppose his way of life.
Whereas a homosexual Catholic, feels he does not fit in his religion. It stands in his way. He stars asking "WHY". And his journey ends in either Liberal Christianity or Atheism.

What are your thoughts?
Again, no ridicule intended. I'm a bisexual agnostic myself.

As long as all relegions condemn practicing homosexuality, then I think homosexuals will be more comfortable to be atheists... But is is not a rule...

Peace

Simple the bible states that Homosexuals are abomination against God, So how can gay person be accepted by God if they are an abomination, they can't that simple, Not to say with West Boro Baptist church out there spreading there hate crimes against Gay it just proves that Christians are too narrow minded to accept people who are different form there so called right “morals”. Within the Judeo-Christian and Muslim traditions, homosexuals have been especially denounced and persecuted, defining the experience of religion as one of shame, self-loathing and fear for millions of homosexual men and women. There are also groups within the mainstream global religions who preach acceptance or tolerance to homosexuals, while at the same time telling them that while they can still have homosexual feelings and be practicing members of the faith, they cannot be practicing homosexuals and be recipients of redemption or of the religious community.

I'm not sure. Maybe because the Church isn't very nice about telling homosexuals that it's a sin. But there are some christian churches that welcome homosexuals. They are God's children too and He loves them just as much as any of his other children. I feel bad sometimes because it does hurt christian homosexuals and for no good reason. They cant change who they are. I don't question my religion, Im a roman catholic, but if I were a homosexual, I would be scared and look for different churches that would not be so discriminative. I'm sorry, if you are a homomsexual christian, please feel free to talk with me but if you are a homosexual atheist..i would welcome you to chat but you might not be interested. Again I'm sorry that the catholic would make you feel this way.

Given that homosexuality is 6% across the board, one would imagine that there are as many gay Catholics as there are atheists - we just don't hear about them.

Also, recent studies have shown that atheism is correlated with educational achievement: the more qualified you are, the more likely you will be an atheist. It could also be said that the more educated you are, the more likely you will feel comfortable in your sexual identity, and will come out. So if there is any correlation between homosexuality and atheism, it may well be down to that as well.

People tend to follow the law of the least resistance.
The problem is not the intellectual understanding of the faith but the demands of the gospel in your life. The problem is moral.
If you put pleasure over the truth you eventually end up sad and disillusioned.
God is love, but many today make sex their god so in reality they are not Atheist or agnostics but idolaters.

JUST TO MAKE THINGS VERY CLEAR GOD DOES NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS.

Jesus died for all.

The Catholic Church doesn't believe that the bible is the only authority.

I think if the churches would accept and homosexuals into their congregations and extend them true Jesus like love, then the homosexual community would be more likely to join the big churches. As it is now, they have to search for churches that will accept them. I would bet that the general population of homosexual are as religuous as the hetrosexual population. Though they probably belong to smaller churches or practice the religion on their own without going to churches.

I believe that many homosexuals seek only acceptance for the life God gave them. Christians believe that we are made in God's image and that God loves us all unconditionally. So for the Catholic religion to treat homosexuals the way they do, is, IMO, going against God's teachings.

Homosexuals who are Christian seek churches (this is NOT Liberal Christianity) who will accept all of God's children. There are many out there.

Not being gay or being gay is a very little part of what is written in the bible and there are WAY more other things that are in there that we pay little or no attention to.

Divorice, sex before marriage, killling unrully children, Selling each other into slavery.

Am I to assume that a Catholic would guestion these bliefs and change to Liberal Christianity or Atheism.?

The college I used to go to, UNCG, we had a very large gay population, about 28% of the students there were gay (according to Princeton Review).

Oddly enough though, most of them were Christians, other denominations than Catholic though. I really found it strikingly odd.

It could just be because we're in the Bible Belt, but it's a weird little demographic!

I would challenge your statement that the average Catholic won't question his religion - I've heard it said that Catholic schools are Atheist training academies!

But generally, given the inherent homophobia in Xtianity, questioning the morality of the religion would seem to be a natural progression from questioning your own sexuality.

I think maybe because supposedly it is stated that homosexuals are going to hell. Let me quickly state that I do not believe that!!! The God I believe in loves us all and does not punish us for how he made us. Are we not all Gods children? Did he not make us all? I think it says something in the bible about it.. now I believe the bible is holy but at the same time it is written completely by men..so it is sexist..and I dont believe that God thinks anyone.. regardless of sex, and race are any better than anyone else. We are all equal!! I think it is very sad that anyone should not believe because they think God doesnt love them. God loves everyone so dont give up.
