Ninjas were originated from China to Japan. Historically they were hired as assasins, and due to their cheap labour and weaponary, but exceptional acrobatic skills, they were very successful. Hence Japanese adopted to their own, (and improved on it.. to be the -pop ninja culture everyone knows of today).
The Room in Matrix is actually a classic historical Chinese KungFu Room, known as (Dao Chang) / (Dojang in Korean, and Dojo in Japanese). - Same Chinese Characters.
The Japanese Style is similiar, but would involve lower ceilings. Their houses are made of paper and wood, because they cant afford luxery like glass.

If you meant the specific room in the Matrix, then it's just an ordinary japanese traditional room. In medieval Japan, huge earthquakes were common so they built walls made of paper and wood for their houses instead of concrete so they won't go thru so much trouble picking up large debris after a seismic attack of great magnitude hit them. The room you see Neo and Morpheus fighting in is a typical room in a traditional japanese house, although in the movie the set used have a more modern feel to them.

Chinese: Dao Chang (pronounced DOW-chahng, rhymes with OUCH-ahng)
Korean: Dojang (pronounced DOE-jahng)
Japanese: Dojo (pronounced DOE-joe)
The word translates to gymnasium or training hall in each language.
Ninja are not from China but from Japan. Not to be rude, but there are as many differences between someone from China and someone from Japan as there are between someone from France and someone from Greece.

They are called Dojo's.But Ninja's trained in the outdoors and used nature as their guide and teacher. They were also Japanese not Chinese. The only one alive who has the Ninja Soke lineage is Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. There are also many people who practice the ninja oriented Art of Ninjutsu.

Kwoon - Chinese
Ninja no longer exist but probably would not have trained in a dojo - more likely, as someone else said, trained outdoors.
